Job Summary:

Under routine supervision, this position is responsible for payroll, garnishment, and tax duties for salary, hourly, maintenance, and driver pay. The incumbent provides general assistance in a service center environment on payroll-related inquiries to employees across J.B. Hunt including payroll inquiry support and resolution, transaction processing, document and data collection/validation and records retention activities.

Job Description:

Key Responsibilities:

• Calculate and process standard payroll cycles and off-cycle payroll for the entire organization, including drivers and office staff

• Review and/or troubleshoot tax, garnishment, and/or payroll data inputs, such as computations, withholding, and deductions adjustments

• Record changes affecting net wages, such as exemptions, insurance coverage, garnishments and loan payments, for each employee

• Provide Tier 3 support for escalated employee inquiries and troubleshooting issues related to payroll, garnishment, and tax including those that require policy interpretation

• Monitor and ensure the balance of payroll runs; incorporate any changes in legal requirements including minimum wage, the local tax rate, related federal and state regulations, and garnishment regulations

• Maintain records of forms, such as W-2s and policies associated with federal, state, and local authorities, and garnishment documents

• Retrieve and provide payroll-related data and documentation as requested for reports within an appropriate time frame; assist senior staff in resolving any discrepancies in reports

• Coordinate with banks to ensure pay transactions are made according to schedule; oversee paycheck distribution and/or arrange direct deposit programs

• Review reports pertaining to unusual cost/payroll records and ensure cost/payroll data is allocated correctly, including Cash Transfer Systems/Fraud research

• Process complex advances and payroll-related transactions for terminations • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent; 1 year or more of related experience, education, or training, or military equivalent

AND/OR Demonstration of the following skills and abilities through education, certifications, military, or other experiences

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to communicate effectively through various mediums


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Management, Finance or related field with 1 or more years of related experience, education or training
  • Experience in Payroll, Finance or Human Resources
  • Ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment
  • Ability to be both flexible and adaptable
  • Ability to establish and maintain relationships with clients, vendors, and peers
  • Ability to efficiently manage time
  • Ability to work individually or as part of a team
  • Ability to determine the root cause of issues and create solutions
  • Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret data using various kinds of techniques to meet business needs
  • Proficient in Microsoft Programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge of pay regulations
  • Knowledge of approaches and techniques for recognizing and resolving operational or process problems
  • Ability to gather, clarify, and apply spoken information

Compensation:

Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include skills, education, experience, geography, and other qualifications of the successful candidate.  This position may be eligible for annual bonus and incentives based on profitability or volumes in accordance with the terms of the Company’s bonus and incentive plans, as applicable and in effect from time to time.
