Industrial Design Manager– Product Design at Bose Corporation

We’re looking for a passionate Industrial Design Manager who’s excited to contribute to both the creation of our products and the development of our team. This individual will help drive the work and culture of a team that fuels the creation of our hardware product designs and brings the power of sound to our customers. Our work is highly cross-functional, so we’re looking for a talented and humble player/coach whose leadership, creativity, empathy, and top-notch communication skills will help deliver world class designs and further develop direct reports that are part of an award-winning team.
Opportunity – what you’ll do
- Manage a team of talented designers, providing guidance and support as needed, and inspiring them to push ideas and strategies forward to reach their full potential
- Support Pre-development and Development programs as a hands on designer and design leader.
- Lead clear and effective communication of design progress and risk to design and engineering leadership.
- Foster a strong studio culture alongside lead designers understanding teams dynamics and leading effective design crits
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional managers, including marketing, product, and engineering, to ensure that design work is integrated into all aspects of our business.
- Implement design strategies, processes, and standards that drive innovation, efficiency, and quality.
- Collaborate with CMF, UX, and UR leads to drive holistic, user-centered design solutions.
- Manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously, ensuring that all deadlines (and key stakeholders expectations) are met, ensuring design work is aligned with our design principles and business goals.
- Manage relationships with external vendors and partners, including design agencies and freelance designers.
- Stay up-to-date on design trends, technologies, and best practices to drive innovation and improvements within the design team.
- Travel as required in support of assigned projects.
Qualifications/Skills – What you’ll bring
- Minimum MFA, BID, or BFA in Industrial design
- Minimum 8+ years Industrial Design experience/2+ years people management experience (preferably in a consumer electronics product environment)
- Portfolio demonstrating strong design thinking abilities as well as showcasing product development work
- Strong 2D sketching and CAD skills
- Proficient in Solidworks, Siemens NX, Keyshot, Adobe Illustrator, and Photoshop
- Ability to drive teams to meet deliverable needs as priorities, project scope and timelines shift.
- Focus on details, organization and clear communications
- Experience with high volume manufacturing processes (preferred)
- A collaborative attitude with experience partnering cross-functionally with UX and engineering teams
- Ability to motivate your team to identify, solve, and implement design solutions autonomously.
- Team management experience, with proven record of delivering real world products to market.
- Experience partnering with UX to ensure thoughtful and effective integrations of on-product UI.
