Job Summary:

The Non-certified Medical Assistant provides care for patients under the direction of the physician or nurse. Key responsibilities of the role include preparing patient for examinations, assisting during treatments, coordinating tests and follow-up care, and documenting care in the medical record. Demonstrates competency and skills to serve patients of all ages including neonate, infant, child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations. Performs other duties as delegated.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

- Patient-centered care

a. Provides relationship-based patient centered care that is consistent with population specific characteristics (e.g., age, gender, disease state, etc.) in a manner that adapts service delivery to reflect an understanding of cultural diversity b. Assists with patient flow and rooming c. Carries out physician orders generated from patient visit, such as vaccine or medication administration, screenings, EKGs, lab point of care testing, etc., as defined in designated role-based clinical competencies. d. Documents all care delivered in the electronic medical record in a timely manner. e. Keeps patient examination rooms stocked, clean and free of clutter f. Assists nurse and other members of care team with care delivery, as assigned and within scope of practice.
- Teamwork, Collaboration and Communication a. Coordinates the delivery and documentation of safe, quality care that promotes the professional practice care delivery model. This includes but is not limited to diverse and inclusive interdisciplinary communication methods such as huddles and staff meetings, and promotion of a respectful, inclusive clinical environment. b. Demonstrates teamwork and collaboration by practicing in a manner that is fiscally responsible and promotes the recruitment and retention of all healthcare team members c. Uses positive and respectful communication with all members of the care team, patients, and families
- Professional Development a. Completes all initial and ongoing professional competency assessments, required annual learning, and other education as assigned b. Serves as a role model for all staff disciplines and students to ensure that there is a current and future qualified workforce, modeling professionalism and creating a healthy work environment c. May serve as a preceptor or mentor for new staff and students
- Patient Safety a. Promotes a safe and hazard-free environment for the provision of high-quality patient care b. Reports to leadership potential patient safety hazards identified c. Integrates health promotion and patient safety principles into the delivery of care via the application of evidence-based practice and best practice workflows to ensure that care is individualized, exceeds patient expectations, and promotes quality outcomes d. Participates in patient safety events and education, as required
- Quality and Regulatory a. Upholds all system/organizational and WMG policies and procedures and clinical competencies put forth by this job description b. Demonstrates consistent use of appropriate hand hygiene c. Follows appropriate PPE and infection prevention policies in the delivery of quality, safe patient care d. Assures that all quality control measures are completed and documented on appropriate logs

Required Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma General or GED General or Other Certificate Medical Assisting-Preferred


Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s):
All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.

  • Basic Life Support or BLS - Instructor


Additional License(s) and Certification(s):

Must successfully pass a Medical Assistant credentialing body examination (AMT) within 90 Days Required

Required Minimum Experience:

Specific experience in practice specialty Required
Graduate from state recognized medical assisting program in last 5 years or evidence of fulltime employment as a medical assistant for at least one year of last 3 years. OR 2 years Required

Ability to read, write and speak the English language;

Ability to collaborate with other health care providers in the provision of patient care;
