Job Overview

GENERAL SUMMARY

Under supervision of their manager and/or Lead Field Technicians, provides complex preventive maintenance, testing, and repair service of computer hardware, primarily on stand-alone or networked PCs.  Coordinates the installation, maintenance and support required to maintain a variety of networked PCs.  Provides technical support to Technicians in performance of duties. 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Consults with Management to review the feasibility of systems requests from client departments.
  • Performs inspections, installations, preventive maintenance, testing, and repair of IT equipment at various customer sites.
  • Troubleshoots complex problems with hardware and software.
  • Consults with Management to review trouble shooting techniques, procedures and SLA performance objectives.
  • Prepares trouble tickets on issues such as equipment failure, repair, and prepares data sheets relative to each service call; analyzes equipment.
  • Resolves systems problems, including coordination between end users and hardware components of a local area network; trains and assists end users in assigned applications.
  • Assists in the evaluation of system configuration and software to ensure effective use of hardware resources.
  • Assists with various presentations by setting up and troubleshooting various types of Audio/Visual equipment.
  • Maintains and administers various support systems as assigned.
  • Manages multiple projects simultaneously both as an individual as well as a team member.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Completion of high school curriculum or equivalent.
  • Completion of formal education in computer operations and repair.
  • Four (4) years of experience in computer operations including one (1) year of computer maintenance.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be substituted for the above.
  • Possession of a valid class C driver's license.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Excellent Customer Service skills required.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills required. 
  • Excellent client relationship skills are essential.
  • Knowledge of the capabilities, limitations, and general characteristics of personal computers.
  • Knowledge of Desktop Operating Systems.
  • Knowledge of network servers and cabling standards.
  • Skill in the installation, configuration and repair of desktop computers, networks, peripheral equipment and related software systems.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, and to maintain harmonious internal and external working relationships.
  • Ability to be on call via pager or other department-defined method.
  • Ability to pass a medical physical.

DESIRABLE

  • College degree in Computer Science, Data communications or Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience in Microsoft network operating system.
  • Experience in Windows XP, Win7 operating systems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • MCP or MCSE certification.
  • A+ Certified Service Technician

For Terminal System Field Services

  • Experience with Airport Processing systems, i.e., Common-Use, EVIDS, CCTV, PA, etc.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT

  • This is a designated safety sensitive position as defined in DFW Airport’s Drug and Alcohol Administrative Policy and Procedure. Applicants selected for this position will be required to pass a drug test prior to employment and to submit to drug screening on a random basis during the length of their employment in the safety sensitive position.

  • Uses reasoning abilities in performing analysis and solving problems.
  • Frequently exerts forces equivalent to lifting 25 pounds and occasionally exerts forces equivalent to lifting up to 50 pounds.

  • Uses near-visual acuity in reading written documents.
  • Drives to locations on Airport property.
