Job Description Summary

               

As a Line Mechanic, you will be responsible for supporting plant operations by repairing and maintaining all equipment plant-wide and performing maintenance functions throughout the plant as assigned or directed by supervisory personnel while working under limited supervision. In this position you will work a full-time rotating (nights/days) shift on a 12-hour shift schedule. Job tasks occur in any area of the plant, require good physical stamina, and are labor intensive in an often fast-paced work environment. Journeyman Millwright qualifications are preferred; however, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th year apprentices may be considered. Heavy duty mechanics may also be considered.

About The Role:

  • Location: Taber, Alberta
  • Type: Full-time, Hourly
  • Schedule: 12-hour shift rotation (7:00-7:00) with an average of 42 hours per week. Must be available to work nights, weekends, and statutory holidays.
  • Reports to: Maintenance Team Leader

As a Line Mechanic, you'll...

  • Assist maintenance supervisor to coordinate tasks, critiquing on-going and finished work, sets priorities and other responsibilities as authorized.
  • Ensure effective leadership aptitude, communication and reasoning skills are being applied to Company policies, practices and procedures.
  • Support Management and employees efforts to optimize manufacturing efficiency’s and promote continues improvement.
  • Work with Supervisory staff and safety committees to develop and implement safety improvements.
  • Assist maintenance supervisor in repair and maintenance programs.
  • Assist in ordering materials and supplies for R & M.
  • Demonstrates a thorough knowledge and understanding of processing equipment as well as the ability to operate, overhaul, and repair of said equipment.
  • Performs maintenance work, repair and adjustments of processing equipment.
  • Changes and replaces belts, sprockets, bearings, chains, motors, pumps, etc.
  • Performs building repairs.
  • Performs welds and acceptable cutting using appropriate welding equipment.
  • Maintain a clean work area.
  • Maintains/Promotes safe work practices at all times. 
  • Must have a complete knowledge and understanding of the plant safety rules including lockout-tag out procedure.
  • Understands and follows all plant Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
  • Demonstrate within 30 days of job assignment, ownership of proper tools for the job.
  • Assist supervisors in the training of new line mechanics.
  • Fill out, maintain and sign all applicable documentation and administration forms for verification purposes.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisors.
  • Communicates with operators, sanitation leaders and supervisors as follows: To keep abreast of downtime maintenance activities. To keep abreast of production activities.
  • Removes any foreign material found during transfers and inspections, then notifies supervisor immediately if glass, metal and/or any other foreign material is found.
  • Maintain sanitation in the work area as needed
  • Clean shop area as determined necessary (using the designated cleaning equipment and supplies as well as a high pressure water hose).
  • Notify supervisors and sanitation leaders when repair work in the production area is completed.
  • Other duties as assigned by your supervisor.

Basic & Preferred Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must possess effective leadership aptitude; communication skills, reasoning ability, acceptable work performance; an understanding of plant safety rules, policies and procedures, the ability to effectively lead and correspond with work groups in regards to: safe work practices, policies and procedures, have demonstrated safe work practices and have a safe work record; satisfactory attendance, and be able to safely perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Journeyman Millwright Certificate (preferred). Individuals in a 2nd, 3rd, or 4th year apprenticeship may also be considered.
  • Ability to perform structurally sound welds and acceptable cutting using equipment as follow: Acetylene Cutting Torch – mild steel, Arc Weld – mild steel and stainless steel, Tig Weld – stainless steel, Plasma Cutter – stainless steel

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups, management, supervisor and fellow co-workers in organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra, geometry and mathematics required to calculate interest, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
