The Pharmacy Technician – Ambulatory supports operations within the Euclid Avenue Pharmacy, one of four outpatient pharmacies on Cleveland Clinic Main Campus and one of the highest-volume ambulatory pharmacy locations, processing approximately 1,100 prescriptions daily. This fast-paced environment offers a variety of responsibilities and the opportunity to work alongside a large, collaborative technician team that supports flexible scheduling and cross-training. Caregivers rotate through multiple workstations, including prescription data entry, medication preparation and dispensing, point-of-sale transactions, inventory management, cycle counts, restocking, and ordering activities. The role also involves extensive customer service and communication with patients, providers, care teams, employee health plan representatives, and international patient services to ensure accurate prescription processing, medication access, and an exceptional patient experience.

A caregiver in this role will work full-time, Monday through Friday, on a rotating schedule of 8-hour shifts. Weekday shifts rotate weekly and may include 6:45am to 3:15pm, 8:30am to 5:00pm and 10:00am to 6:30pm. This position also includes a weekend rotation approximately every 8–9 weeks and a holiday rotation approximately once every three years.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:  

  • Provide distributive pharmacy services, assistance and support for the pharmacist in an ambulatory/outpatient setting.  
  • Prepare prescription orders for dispensing to patients.  
  • Maintain inventory for the outpatient pharmacy.  
  • Assist with extemporaneous compounding of prescriptions and bulk compounding of prescriptions and over the counter items.  
  • Operate the point-of-sale cash register system.  
  • Monitor and act on reorder points, restock prescription and non-prescription area and remove expiring products.  
  • Provide multi-pharmacy support in assigned areas as needed.  

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • High School Diploma/GED   

Must meet all of the following license and certification combination requirements at the time of application:

  • Must hold an active registration as a Registered Pharmacy Technician through the Ohio Board of Pharmacy (OBOP).

  • It is required, within 18 months from the date of hire: Must obtain a national certification as a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the National Healthcare Association (NHA)  AND Registration as a Certified Pharmacy Technician with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy
  • Caregivers with active Pharmacy Technician Trainee or Registered Pharmacy Technician registrations are required to update their registration to a Certified Pharmacy Technician registration with the OBOP within 6 months

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:  

  • Six months of hospital experience 
  • Completion of a formal pharmacy technician training program

Physical Requirements:

  • Typical physical demands include ability to perform the job while standing, reaching, stretching, stooping, and sitting for prolonged times; manual dexterity sufficient to perform computer, dispensing functions of the job; ability to lift up to 20 lbs. while walking, stooping, bending and reaching.

Personal Protective Equipment:
