The Director, Cancer Services is a senior administrative leader responsible for the overall operational performance, strategic integration, and administrative oversight of the comprehensive cancer center's regional network (hub-and-spoke model). This role ensures seamless alignment of clinical, academic, and research functions, driving operational excellence, financial sustainability, and exceptional patient-centered care across all care locations.

Job Duties

  • Strategic Leadership and Planning:
    Plan, direct, and monitor clinical operations across multiple regional sites, ensuring efficiency, high reliability, and alignment with the overarching cancer center strategic plan.
    Analyze and thoroughly understand market demand and utilization trends, developing business plans and strategies for program growth and service line expansion.
  • Operational Oversight:
    Provide executive oversight for daily operations across regional sites, ensuring efficient patient access, streamlined processes, and consistent care standards across the cancer care continuum.
    Regular site visits are required to address challenges and maintain visibility.
  • Financial Management:
    Manage the regional service line's financial performance, including budgeting, variance analysis, and initiatives to improve revenue cycle, resource allocation, and cost control.
  • Quality and Compliance:
    Oversee performance improvement activities, establish quality measures, and ensure adherence to all regulatory and accrediting body standards, including NCI, Commission on Cancer (CoC), and TJC. Foster a culture of safety and continuous improvement in all aspects of care delivery with a focus on evidence-based practices.
  • Clinical Integration & Care Delivery:
    Champion a seamless "One Cancer Experience" across all sites, ensuring consistent implementation of clinical policies, workflows, and service standards.
    Collaborate with physician, nursing, and research leadership to integrate evidence-based practices, clinical trials, and research goals into daily operations.
    Ensure effective coordination with ancillary support areas (e.g., pharmacy, lab, radiology) to maintain continuity of care and efficient patient throughput.
  • Team Leadership and Development:
    Lead and mentor site directors and managers to foster a collaborative culture, open communication and conflict management constructively.
    Oversee staffing and professional development.
    Build relationships with local providers, organizations, and patients to enhance service visibility and referrals.
  • Community Engagement:
    Represents the oncology service line/cancer center in the community, building awareness, enhancing referral relationships, and engaging in outreach programs and events.


Minimum Qualifications:

Education & Experience:

  • Master’s Degree Health Administration (MHA) or Master’s Degree Business Administration (MBA) or Master’s Degree Public Health (MPH) Required.
  • 7 years Progressive management experience in healthcare and 5 years Experience working in oncology and 1 year Multi-site network leadership role experience, preferably in an academic medical center or NCI-designated environment Required.

Skills:

  • Must have knowledge of oncology practices, regulations, and experience managing complex operations and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong strategic thinking, problem-solving, decision-making, and communication skills are essential for collaborating with various stakeholders.
  • Strong financial and business acumen with proven experience in budget management, financial analysis, and strategic planning.
  • Expertise in operational management, problem analysis, project management, and conflict resolution.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead large-scale initiatives across complex, matrixed organizations through influence and collaboration.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with physicians, staff, community members, and executive leadership.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with systems like Epic and contemporary care coordination tools.
  • Clinical background or licensure (e.g., RN, CRNP, PA-C, PharmD) is desired to provide a deeper understanding of clinical practices


Physical Demands
Lift and carry 25 lbs. frequent sitting/standing, frequent keyboard use, *patient care providers may be required to perform activities specific to their role including kneeling, bending, squatting and performing CPR.
