About the Role:

As a Senior Underwriter on Everest Reinsurance Company’s Canada Facultative Reinsurance team, you will be responsible for underwriting a diverse portfolio of facultative reinsurance risks across the Canadian market. You will support the company’s strategic growth objectives while maintaining strong underwriting discipline and targeted profitability.

In this role, you will evaluate complex ceded risks, structure tailored reinsurance solutions, and act as a trusted partner to ceding companies and reinsurance brokers. You will apply sound judgment, deep technical expertise, and strong market insight to deliver high‑quality underwriting decisions and contribute to effective portfolio management.

You will work collaboratively with colleagues across underwriting, actuarial, claims, catastrophe modeling, finance, and contract wording to ensure consistent risk selection, pricing accuracy, and operational excellence. Your ability to balance analytical rigor with relationship management will be essential as you help strengthen Everest’s position as a leading facultative reinsurance partner in the Canadian market.

A strong commitment to compliance, documentation standards, and service excellence will be central to your success in this role.

Responsibilities: 

  • Making sound underwriting decisions, demonstrating appropriate underwriting skills and judgment that will achieve targeted profitability objectives  

  • Utilizing all internal underwriting, pricing and cat modeling tools 

  • Developing and maintaining strong relationships with ceding companies and reinsurance brokers, and providing exceptional level of service 

  • Adhering to internal and external compliance guidelines and maintaining proper file documentation 

  • Interacting and collaborating with all functional areas of the company including corporate underwriting, actuarial, claims, accounting, and contract wording 

Qualifications/Requirements: 

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in business, insurance, or related field is preferred 

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience working as an Underwriter in the insurance/reinsurance industry with a property and/or casualty background 

  • Very strong analytical and technical skills including the ability to interpret catastrophe modeling and actuarial methodologies 

  • Excellent communication (verbal and written), interpersonal, and negotiating skills  

  • Strong computer skills; adept at using Microsoft Suite with advanced Excel skills 

  • Ability to develop proficiency with the company specific electronic filing and various processing systems to analyze, document and manage business 

  • Ability to stay organized and effectively prioritize tasks within a fast paced, team-oriented, and high intensity work environment 

The base salary range for this position is CAD$120,000 - CAD$160,000 annually. The offered rate of compensation will be based on individual education, experience, qualifications and work location.
