The purpose of this role is to act as Champion, Owner, and Custodian of all R&D Finance Data. In addition, to be the Finance Subject Matter Expert in all other areas that integrate with R&D. In doing so, this role is responsible for the relevant data design for each system and the documentation of the associated technical and process elements.

The Data Manager is responsible for setting the data definitions for all R&D Finance Data related objects, including the responsibility for defining, maintaining, and communicating the Finance data standards for R&D.

They will assess business requirements for new Master Data fields and drive the business towards common, simple, standard global data standards that will be supporting our reporting needs.

The nature of the role will vary over time; sometimes the focus will be on significant transformation and at other times it will be on keeping the process on track and driving process adoption / adherence.

Role Expectation:

They will provide support, oversight to the R&D Data Owner, GFS GPOs and other Master Data teams to determine if there are any problems caused by incorrect R&D master data, collating and providing expertise to determine the root cause and provide solutions:

Key Responsibilities will include:

  • The Data Analyst/Manager will provide the Subject Matter Expertise and represent and champion the R&D Data position with internal and external customers i.e., IRM, PPRM, Central and R&D MDM teams         
  • The Data Analyst/Manager will own, build and maintain the R&D Master Data in line with GSK Standards and ensure that the data is aligned across the R&D systems to support internal and external reporting
  • Will support the data requirements for any R&D Reporting solutions including data on demand requests, actively sourcing and ensuring that the data standards are being adhered
  • The Data Analyst/Manager will own and maintain the Finance Data Fabric, providing input to and approval of the Data Dictionary and / or Data Field Definitions based on the framework:
    • Owning the Finance Data Matrix process, working with R&D Tech
    • Responsible for maintaining the R&D Finance definitions in the Data Fabric
    • Responsible for working with R&D Tech to review and implement new requests for data in the Fabric e.g., supporting the data on demand
    • Supporting related reporting requirement
  • Collate, manage and assess Data remedy tickets sent to the R&D Finance team to determine if the issue is caused by problems relating to master data:
    • Root cause the issue, working with the Master Data Management Organisation
    • Determine if the change is “local” or “global” and if the change is Global, then engage stakeholders and conduct an impact assessment before implementing
    • Partner with Tech to determine any data tables that may need to be updated and work with Tech to ensure a successful change
    • Engage with users on the impact of the solutions via engagement forums
  • Assess and sign-off requests for R&D master data triggered by changes from the business or Group.
    • Determine if the change is “local” or “global” and if the change is Global, then engage stakeholders and conduct an impact assessment before implementing
    • Partner with Tech to determine any data tables that may need to be updated and work with Tech to ensure a successful change
    • Ensure any changes are sign-off by the GPO and or R&D teams
  • Own the R&D Finance Master Data sets e.g., WBS, Cost Centers and BUDID etc to determine if we have proliferation or misalignment
  • The Data Manager will also support the data elements in other areas of R&D, working closely with the R&D Data Steward

We would like to speak to you if you have these experience and skills:

  • Senior relationship management and stakeholder management
  • Large scale business transformation experience
  • Experience of Pharma sector
  • Substantial level of understanding of SAP and/or R&D systems (or equivalent cloud or ERP systems) at the transactional level and how the solutions support business processes
  • Sound understanding of process simplification and standardization and proven experience in global process roll-out
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills and the ability to work flexibly within a matrix team
  • Sound influencing, negotiation and stakeholder management skills
  • Good knowledge of process design, lean sigma and other process improvement approaches
  • Understanding/use of Agile Ways of Working and Scrum/Kanban Delivery
  • Master Data Management and an understanding of how the ERP templates are built
  • Flexible to Work in shift operations to cater based on the business needs
