Now is an exciting time to join the R&D Digital & Tech organisation and help drive a step change in technology strategy and delivery.

The System Data and Engineering Manager role sits across all the R&D Digital & Tech solution groups and will work directly with Product Directors and Product Teams to drive their software solutioning strategy and implementation.

It has the accountability to work across Product Teams to help with different technical solutions which will drive a change in culture across R&D Digital & Tech. Working with the DevSecOps, Quality and UX teams you will lead the engineering guidelines and practices to be adopted across the R&D Digital & Tech Product Teams. You will have the opportunity to be the thought leader in R&D Digital & Tech and drive adoption of best practices to enable R&D Digital & Tech’s Product Teams in their journey.

System Data and Engineering Manager

Key Requirements:

  • Technical Thought Leadership:
    • Formulate and implement a robust development strategy, across different technology stack.
    • Establish a reputation as a technical thought leader for both different solution groups and third-party vendors.
    • Maintain close collaboration with solution groups and vendors, ensuring alignment with emerging technologies.

  • Data Architecture and Design:
    • Design and architect data solutions leveraging Azure services such as Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Data Factory, and Azure Databricks
    • Develop and implement strategies for efficient data ingestion from various sources into Azure Data Lakes, Azure SQL Database, or other data storage solutions.
    • Integrate and transform data using Azure Data Factory or Azure Databricks
    • Monitor the performance of Azure Data Products, identifying bottlenecks and optimizing data processing and storage.
    • Implement and maintain data catalogs to facilitate the discovery and understanding of available datasets.

  • Scripting and Coding:
    • Write and maintain scripts and code for automating routine operational tasks, configuration management, and deployment processes.
    • Utilize scripting languages such as Python, PowerShell, or others as appropriate.

  • Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD):
    • Design and implement CI/CD pipelines to automate the build, testing, and deployment of software applications.
    • Facilitate the seamless and rapid delivery of updates and new features.

  • Agile Project Management
    • Develop and Maintain Project Plans
    • Resource Management
    • Risk Management
    • Stakeholder Management
    • Budget and Cost Management

  • Documentation of Automated Processes:
    • Maintain comprehensive documentation for all automated processes, ensuring clarity and accessibility for the IT team.
    • Provide training and documentation for team members on automated workflows.

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goal:

  • Computer Science or related bachelor's degree required although relevant experience is equally valued
  • Experience on cloud services, especially data analytics tools/services like Azure Databricks, Azure DataFactory etc.  
  • Experience on varied relational and non-relational databases
  • Experience on data virtualizations tool/services like Denodo, Azure Synapse etc
  • Containerizations – Kubernetes, Docker
  • DevSecOps knowledge
  • Good command of English both spoken and written (at least B2)

Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

  • Data science (e.g. AI/ML) or data analytics & data quality/integrity
  • Experience with data structures (i.e. information management), data models or relational database design
