Gear Cutting - Night Shift

Moog Aircraft Group is looking for an apprentice-trained, experienced Gear cutter machinist  at our facility based in Wolverhampton. At Moog, we're focused on the customer and for us, this means designing complex mechanical products that are often bespoke and high-profile. Our Machinists work to exceptionally close tolerance, an essential requirement of the aerospace industry

Key Responsibilities:

  • Set up, run, and monitors specialized gear-manufacturing machines (such as conventional or CNC gear shapers and hobbers) to cut precise internal and external gear teeth, splines

  • Install specialized gear shaper cutters, align workpieces on arbors or chucks, and adjust stroke lengths, speeds, and feed parameters

  • Perform first-off inspections and complete necessary quality documentation.

  • Inspect finished gears using precision measuring instruments like micrometers, vernier calipers, and gear-testing equipment(Kling)

  • Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings, technical specifications, and gear data.

  • Proven experience in a machine shop environment

  • Competent in setting up and using machine tools

  • Confident in using precision measurement equipment.


 Key Experience:

  • Recognised engineering apprenticeship.

  • Previous experience in an engineering/manufacturing role, ideally within the aerospace industry.

  • Strong knowledge of machining techniques and appropriate tooling.

  • Attention to detail, accuracy, and process improvement techniques.

  • Proficiency in using relevant inspection techniques/equipment to achieve drawing tolerances.

  • Over 5 years experience on different gear cutting /gear shaper machines (LFS, Lorenz)

Additional Information:
 This role follows a day shift pattern  for the training period  and in the future lead night shift shifts. Candidates must be self-certified and hold a quality stamp after the qualifying period.
