Abbott Ireland Nutrition Division Cootehill Cavan

Abbott Nutrition produces a range of infant formulae in all pack sizes under the brand name “Similac”. To complement the range of “Similac” infant formulae, the facility also manufactures a range of follow on formulae under the brand name of “Gain”. The essential ingredient is liquid skim milk and this is combined with carbohydrate, vegetable oils, vitamins and minerals. The product is blended, pasteurised, dried and packaged at the site and once packaged, is distributed to Europe, South East Asia, the Middle East, Latin America and Canada.

Established in 1975, Abbott Nutrition in Ireland is the largest powder manufacturing facility for the production of infant formulae within the Abbott Corporation worldwide. Approximately 1,000 dairy farms in Ireland and Northern Ireland supply quality milk to the Cootehill facility which processes 500,000 litres per day. This secure supply together with Ireland’s reputation as a green, clean environment is of significant strategic importance to Abbott Nutrition.

The role of Project Manager will involve the following:

PRIMARY OBJECTIVES

  • Lead and manage multiple projects from inception through completion, ensuring timely and accurate production of all client reporting requirements.
  • Adapt and be flexible to changing plant needs, designing bespoke reports that support intercompany relationships and further develop project business.
  • Manage a Facilities Project Team, Design Team, and Contractors for successful project execution.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • People management: Direct a team of project engineers, empowering them to understand and identify all business benefits of a project.
  • Scope management: Work with stakeholders to clarify project scope before moving into the FEP process.
  • Resource management: Ensure all projects are appropriately resourced to meet goals.
  • Team leadership: Motivate and mentor your project team, fostering a collaborative environment.
  • Coordination: Work with other departments and Project Managers to consider project interdependencies.
  • Project planning: Set project goals and milestones, aligning with organizational objectives and Site Master Plan/Strategy.
  • Risk management: Identify potential risks and develop early mitigation strategies.
  • Performance management: Use appropriate tools to prepare and present reports on project status, progress, and outcomes.
  • Change and stakeholder management: Communicate effectively to meet plant stakeholder needs right the first time.
  • Post-project evaluation: Identify lessons learned and opportunities for improvement.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Science, Engineering, Construction, Business Administration).
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in engineering, construction, or project management, including 2+ years of people management experience.

KEY SKILLS

  • Leadership and management: Ability to manage, organize, motivate, and understand people.
  • Problem-solving: Strong mental ability to logically follow a line of thought.
  • Communication: Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Technical proficiency: Proficient with project management tools (e.g., MS Project, Excel, PowerPoint).

ACCOUNTABILITY

  • Project delivery: Accountable for delivering facilities, utilities, and engineering (FUE) improvement projects.
  • Stakeholder engagement: Responsible for developing, planning, and overseeing multiple projects to meet scope, timelines, and budget requirements.
  • Team supervision: Supervise and motivate project engineers, fostering a collaborative environment.
