The Impact You’ll Make in this Role

In this strategic role, you will collaborate with the Operating Committee to drive a culture of performance and continuous improvement, shaping operational strategies that align with both short-term and long-term objectives. You will leverage your extensive experience to enhance business operations, ensuring that our plans are effectively implemented and aligned with our annual operating goals.

As the Business Operations Lead, you will oversee cross-functional business planning, aligning supply and demand forecasts with key sales operations metrics. Your leadership will extend to managing service and training offerings, ensuring that we meet annual objectives and milestones. Partnering closely with the Division leadership team, you will operationalize the annual strategic plan, translating it into actionable KPIs and metrics while leading initiatives to improve division-level performance through effective operational mechanisms. Here, you will make an impact by:

  • Strategic Leadership: Collaborate as a member of the Operating Committee to foster a culture of performance and continuous improvement. Implement business and operational strategies to achieve short and long-term objectives aligned with the annual operating plan.
  • Business Operations Management: Oversee the cross-functional business planning process, ensuring alignment of supply and demand forecasts and critical sales operations metrics to deliver on operational plans.
  • Service and Training Management: Manage the operational aspects of service and paid training offerings to meet annual objectives, ensuring the attainment of key milestones and financial metrics.
  • Partnership Development: Work closely with the Strategy and Business Development Leader to operationalize the annual strategic plan and translate business strategy into annual operating objectives, KPIs, and functional metrics.
  • Operational Mechanisms: Lead operational mechanisms to achieve monthly division-level performance targets, including facilitating kaizen events for timely issue resolution.
  • Capability Building: Develop and lead processes to create new capabilities necessary for meeting mid- to long-term strategic objectives, employing lean management toolkits.
  • Operational Improvement Programs: Coordinate and lead operational improvement programs across the division, ensuring the delivery of annual productivity targets and achievement of the operating plan. Coach teams on strategies to enhance commercial operational performance.

Your Skills and Expertise 
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution.
  • Fifteen (15) years of business management experience in a private, public, government, or military environment.
  • Five (5) years of operational experience.

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:

  • MBA or other relevant advanced degree from an accredited institution.
  • Experience leading large commercial organizations.
  • Background in manufacturing, logistics and supply chain, sales operations, or marketing operations.
  • Action-oriented with a strong focus on execution and results.
  • Proven ability to manage projects with multiple workstreams and lead cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated success in providing innovative solutions to complex strategic challenges.
  • Strong collaboration and influencing skills to engage senior executives in high-pressure environments.
  • Self-starter with a hands-on approach, diplomatic, flexible, and team-oriented.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Superior analytical and problem-solving skills, with a solid understanding of financial and statistical analysis.
  • Proficiency in MS PowerPoint and Excel

Work location:

Travel: May include up to 20% domestic

Applicable to US Applicants Only:The expected compensation range for this position is $207,348 - $253,425, which includes base pay plus variable incentive pay, if eligible. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position.
