About the role

Within BP’s Trading and Shipping Division, and a part of the Refined Products Trading business, the Global Distillates (GDIST) trades all products from the middle and bottom of the barrel, in all geographies. A large, global business, it is active in trading, marketing, origination, and above all support to the wider BP Group and its assets.

GDIST has traders in London, Singapore and Chicago with representatives in regional offices in areas such as Rotterdam, South Africa, Middle East, Brazil, Colombia, Indonesia, China, Japan, Angola, Ghana and Nigeria. GDIST is now looking to recruit a Paper Trader with Options experience to join the Americas GDIST Trading Bench.

The successful candidate will report to the Distillates Paper Book Leader as an employee of ST&S in a front line trading role, with accountabilities and DOA to support the day to day paper trading activity of the book. The candidate will work in close collaboration with other GDIST traders, Originators and Marketers as well as other relevant stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

The successful applicant(s) will be placed in a front-line trading role working under the guidance of the Distillate Paper Book Leader. The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • The execution of paper trading strategies in options and other derivative products in the best interest of GDIST;
  • Hedging of physical book positions on behalf of the relevant traders within the team;
  • Identification, development, implementation and execution of stand alone speculative trades across a wide variety of trading instruments;
  • Development and implement systematic trading strategies to generate entrepreneurial value from volatility, market movements, or to hedge physical risk.
  • Utilize advanced mathematical models to determine fair value,
  • Establishing and building a network of 3rd party relationships across brokers and market participants.
  • Monitor and adjust options positions (Greeks) in real-time to manage risk.
  • Working with our Downstream partners to monetize our Assets
  • Participation in GDIST strategic discussions

Essential Education, requirements and experience

  • Degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or a related field
  • Successful completion of ST&S's assessed trader’s course (ATC) with a “Recommend” result
  • Experienced paper trader with proven track record in trading commodity options and derivative products
  • Proficiency in financial modelling, data analysis tools, and options pricing engines.
  • Deep understanding of commodities markets, market mechanics, and volatility surface analysis
  • Self motivated and driven individual;
  • Commercially astute with negotiation skills
  • Resilient when under pressure
  • Team player and excellent interpersonal skills
  • Inquisitive and able to work independently
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Outstanding attention to detail
  • Strong relationship building skills

How much do we pay (Base)? 123,000 - 228,000 USD Annually

  • Note that the pay range listed for this position is a genuinely expected and reasonable estimate of the range of possible base compensation at the time of posting.

This position is eligible for US Benefits – Core. This position offers paid vacation depending on your years of relevant industry experience and will range from 120 – 240 hours of vacation per year for full time employees. You will also be eligible for 9 paid holidays per year and 2 personal choice holidays.
