Position Description

The Director of Finance will assist in setting up and managing the accounting and purchases of a new resort property and emerging wellness hospitality brand.  Responsible to establish and manage accounting processes; perform the reconciliation/analysis of ledger accounts; serve in a leadership role to staff accountants on property; oversee the night auditor and daily guest portfolio management,  oversee property procurement of FF&E and OS&E,  as well as monitor compliance with Service Level Agreements for property; may manage billing and/or vendor relationships; reviews all documentation to ensure that it complies with Sensei and Sensei partner standards and regulations.  The Director of Finance shall be part of the property Executive Team and report to the General Manager with a dotted line to the Corporate Chief Financial Officer (or its designee).

Responsibilities

  • Prepare balance sheet reconciliations in a timely manner and attend a review with Area Director of Finance each month
  • Full general ledger experience and Execute Month End close
  • Own P&L and is a partner with GM/Ownership in creatively and pro-actively managing resources, best practices, and expenses with an ability to pivot and think strategically; particularly with the revenue generating Rooms, Spa Sport & Wellness, and F&B departments
  • Perform P&L analysis and make necessary adjustments prior to closing the month
  • As part of the property Executive Team analyze costs, bookings and revenue to provide advice to the GM and corporate team on property performance insights including but not limited to yield management, labor flexing, most attractive (ROI and/or usage) packages, operating cost savings and inventory management
  • Assist the daily accounting operations ensuring compliance with the SOPs, internal controls and all federal, state and local laws and regulations
  • Assist in the compilation and preparation of the annual budget, forecasts, taxes and other financial reports to provide support thus ensuring accurate, timely information is available for management and owners
  • Prepare accurate cash flow statements and projections on a monthly basis and on request
  • Prepare timely and accurate sales, use and occupancy tax returns as well as any other external reports or returns as deemed necessary
  • Ensure compliance with the management agreement and attendant legal documents. Understanding how those documents translate into financial responsibilities and how they may affect both the hotel's and Corporate's financial position
  • Assist in setting up accounting and procurement systems and develop related SOP’s
  • Maintain effective system and control procedures as set forth in the policies and procedures manuals
  • Ensure adequate controls are installed and maintained for the protection of the hotels' assets against loss or misappropriation
  • Consult with, and provide assistance to, internal and external auditors on accounting procedures used in the department. Responsible for Hotel Accounting work papers used by auditors during the quarterly reviews and annual audit
  • Performs special projects as assigned
  • Organize, secure, and maintain all files, records, cash and cash equivalents in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Process customer tax exemptions following government regulations
  • Review, reconcile, and process credit card vouchers and advance deposits
  • Monitor and audit gift certificate and incentive award redemption activity
  • Manage AR/AP, procurement, credit cards and calculating TOT
  • Oversee Night Audits and Guest Portfolio management
  • Participate in generating property-level monthly financial reports and annual CAPEX and Operating Budgets, in conjunction with the GM, Departments Heads and Corporate CFO
  • Ability to travel to the Corporate Headquarters quarterly or as needed

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required with a major in Accounting or related field.
  • 5 to 7 years of experience in accounting and management role
  • 3 to 5 years of Hotel back-office experience
  • Current knowledge of US GAAP.
  • Experienced with at least one hotel opening
  • Experience with Oracle Opera & Simphony, Book4Time, NetSuite preferred
  • A CPA is helpful
