This program is designed for students currently pursuing a two- or four-year degree, who have completed a portion of their curriculum, and will be completing their program after the internship experience. It is not designed for graduates.

Job Description:
 

Duties/Tasks:

Duties at the surface coal mine will be wide and varied, based on the needs of the operation.  These duties may include the following:

  • Design – Assist in engineering projects and/or minor design of individual components in small devices to components of large pieces of mining equipment.
  • Computer – Work with various forms of engineering/surveying data to produce designs, plans and reports or studies.
  • Edit\draw pages with markups on AutoCAD.
  • Update, scan and save electrical documents and drawings to the network.
  • Print PDFs, original pages and AutoCAD drawings and bind into new print books or PDF documents. Save final PDF print books to the network in an accessible folder.
  • MSHA law/safety/environmental – Perform job duties in accordance with MSHA law and regulations, established company safety procedures, and state and federal environmental regulations.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

The successful applicant should have strong computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office and AutoCAD. The applicant should have good verbal and written communication and the ability to independently perform tasks and pay close attention to details.  A valid driver license is required.

Educational Requirements:

Enrolled in accredited mechanical engineering / AutoCAD program and in good academic standing.
