Global Technology Operations is excited to stand up a Cloud Platform Engineering with a focus to operationalize Azure Cloud Platform for Vanguard. We are looking for a Senior Cloud Architect as we are re-imaging delivering Azure Cloud Platform Infrastructure as Code. This role drives the strategic vision and roadmap for Cloud products with cross-divisional impact, demonstrating a deep understanding of the product(s) and associated business areas. Products often have enterprise-wide implications.

This Hyrbid (in office Tues-Wed-Thurs) can be based in either Charlotte, NC, or Wayne, PA.

In this role, you will:

  • Provide subject matter expertise in designing cloud and hybrid solutions that run on Azure, including Compute, Network, Storage, Monitoring, Security.
  • Advise stakeholders and translate business requirements into designs for Azure Landing Zone/ solutions that align with the Azure Well-Architected Framework and Cloud Adoption Framework for Azure.
  • Design and implement scalable, secure, and cost-effective cloud Platform solutions that meet Customer demands. Drive and implement automation and orchestration solutions to streamline provisioning, deployment and management of Cloud Infrastructure foundational components that can scale securely.
  • Build, implement and document Architecture patterns, Cloud Architecture designs, implementation procedures and operational best practices. Provide Solution Architecture guidance, mentorship, and cloud expertise to cross functional teams, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Implement solutions on Azure by partnering with various other job roles, including Cloud Platform Engineers, DevOps Engineers, Developers, Administrators, Security engineers, Network Engineers
  • Implement the cloud technology, application, and platform strategy and performance management, through collaboration and alignment across partner teams, such as finance, risk, marketing, and operations, as well as across divisional Cloud leads.
  • Provide expertise on the divisional operating procedures and standards where cloud applications will be utilized, as well as contingency planning in partnership with business leaders and the risk organization.
  • Drive the definition development and testing of cloud technology and application's current state utilization to meet divisional requirements and goals.
  • Lead the cloud integration architectural process, by implementing application and platform standards, guidelines, best practices, and governance. Lead implementation activity to ensure architecture and design principles are upheld.
  • Communicate with end-users and IT senior developers to ensure the cloud model and applications are consistent with the architecture standards.
  • Create clarity and certainty when there is Architecture ambiguity; communicate to Senior leader stakeholders within the Organization.
  • Influence senior leaders on the strategic direction of cloud, and data center transformation programs.
  • Research Emerging Technologies, develop proof-of-concept prototypes and implementation models.
  • Ensure implementation solutions support architecture objectives (availability, scalability, performance, security, etc.), as appropriate.
  • Communicate highly complex technical concepts effectively to a broad group of stakeholders, and establish relationships with IT leaders, architects, and technical specialists to advance proposed architectural solutions.
  • Report on the competitive landscape and corporate and business unit strategies to provide context for architectural decision making.
  • Participate in special projects and perform other duties as assigned.

What it takes:

  • Minimum of ten years related work experience, with at least five years of technology architect experience.
  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience. Graduate degree preferred.

Additional Qualifications that make an impact:

  • A recognized thought leader with excellent communication skills. 
  • Ability to create clarity and certainty when there is Architecture ambiguity; communicate to all stakeholders at varying levels within the organization.
  • Experience in Core Azure Services, Azure governance, Security, Networking, Express Route, S2S VPN devices, Site Recovery, Azure Monitor, RBAC, virtual network and subscription peering
  • Ability to quickly learn and apply the knowledge of Azure Services
  • Familiarity with scalable architecture using Azure Services, Serverless technologies and container Orchestrations Technologies such as Kubernetes.
  • Knowledge of DevOps practices and tools such as GitHub/ CICD pipeline
  • Expertise with Cloud Infrastructure as Code (IaC) Concepts and tools such as Terraform.
  • Logging & Monitoring- experience
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, ability to handle diverse situations, multiple projects, and rapidly changing priorities.
  • Microsoft certifications a plus
  • Minimum of ten years related work experience, with at least five years of technology architect experience.
  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent combination of training and experience. Graduate degree preferred.
