Marathon Petroleum Company LP has an opening for an advanced Senior Designer at its refinery located in Salt Lake City, Utah. This position is located in the Engineering, Drafting and documents organization and reports to the Business Support Manager.
As a Senior Designer, you will perform various phases of planning, site evaluations, analytical designs, specifications, complex layouts, detailed drawings, P&IDs, and piping plans as part of a project team.
This position will also be responsible for ensuring all designs follow MPC standards. Will have a significant amount of unsupervised field experience.
This position requires little or no instruction or guidance from the Supervisor for day-to-day projects. Can take direction and detailed instructions for specific projects from customer representatives. Critical problems are solved in conjunction with the Supervisor and can review the work of others for the application of sound design practices and accuracy upon completion.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Develops cost-effective designs by evaluating job-specific factors such as project-client intent, construction practices, regulatory factors, materials knowledge, ergonomics and safety.
2. Completes project designs, as-built drawings and redline drawings for the fabrication of piping systems, electrical systems, structural components for new construction, repair, replacing and repositioning of equipment with minimal technical direction provided from project leaders or other technical experts.
3. Creates concise and coherent multi-discipline permit, bid, construction packages by applying knowledge of industry and design practices and computer-aided design (CAD) software and other designing drafting equipment. Supports department by providing other drawings, charts, maps, reports and other documents, as needed.
4. Develops detailed bills of materials utilizing current company standards and industry best practices.
5. Acquires data by communicating with internal and external contacts, visiting project sites and reviewing historical drawings. Field visit work may involve obtaining precise measurements, verifying dimensions on drawings.
6. Assists in project drawings reviews or 3D model design review meetings.
7. Estimates design time and prioritizes a schedule of multiple design tasks to meet deadlines.
8. Maintains the database for easy search and recall of facility drawings. Exchange files and transmits data with internal and external parties.
9. Provides quality assurance and quality control for all third-party drawing updates and ensures that the drawing sets meet the company design standards.
