We are presently in search of a Senior Analyst to become a member of our Internal Controls group situated in our Victoria office. This 14-month fixed-term contract is an ideal match for an individual with audit expertise aiming to broaden and develop their professional path. This exceptional opportunity offers extensive exposure to various departments throughout BCI.

DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION

The Corporate Risk & Audit (CR&A) department is responsible for providing analysis and insight on BCI’s risk exposures, governance, and control practices. Comprised of three branches – Enterprise Risk Management, Internal Controls, and Internal Audit – this department helps BCI understand and monitor the key risks that could impact our objectives, advises management on potential mitigation strategies, and provides assurance on the ongoing effectiveness of controls.

The Internal Controls team acts as an independent advisor to management on good control practices and helps management navigate external audit requirements.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Internal Controls, the Senior Analyst, Internal Controls leads the design, development, management, and maintenance of BCI’s Service Organization Controls 1 program and related SOC 1 advisory needs. Through a thorough understanding of BCI’s investment system, processes and controls, the Senior Analyst works collaboratively with internal clients and stakeholders to ensure that the Internal Controls team successfully contributes to the delivery of the BCI SOC 1 report.

WHAT YOU BRING

Must have:

  • A professional audit or accounting designation (CPA, CA, CGA, CMA, CIA) or equivalent experience

  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in the financial industry

  • Working knowledge of project management and auditing standards

  • Understanding of accounting and financial reporting practices and procedures and specifically the documentation and evaluation of internal controls

  • Ability to manage priorities and deadlines of multiple competing tasks within a team environment while ensuring that all work performed is of high quality

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word

Preferred:

  • Big 4 audit experience

WHAT YOU GET TO DO

  • Act as the primary contact for internal stakeholders and external auditors regarding SOC 1 inquiries, providing subject matter expertise and facilitating communication

  • Advise internal stakeholders on BCI's internal controls framework to ensure the accuracy of client financial reports and maintain a clean SOC 1 audit opinion annually

  • Coordinate and support regular reviews of SOC 1 process documentation and control owner certifications to ensure the effectiveness of key SOC 1 controls, facilitating a smooth audit process

  • Support the coordination of SOC 1 testing and reporting processes; assess preliminary findings raised by the external auditor to validate their legitimacy and determine whether compensating controls are in place to mitigate financial reporting risk

  • Collaborate with stakeholders in performing root cause analysis for identified issues, developing practical recommendations to improve risk management, governance, and internal controls

  • Regularly report on issue statuses to the Senior Manager of Internal Controls and key business stakeholders, escalating urgent matters as necessary

  • Lead and support SOC 1 Internal Controls Workstreams for small and medium sized organizational initiatives, ensuring a systematic approach to change management that minimizes control risks

  • Uphold and promote quality control assessment processes for both regular tasks and ad-hoc special projects, providing clear project work plans that enable efficient understanding and execution

SALARY RANGE

BCI offers a competitive total rewards package which includes a performance-based incentive plan, comprehensive health & dental benefits, a defined benefit pension plan and paid time off.

The annualized base salary range for this Victoria-based role is CAD $87,000 to $105,000.

The base salary offered to the successful candidate will consider a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual’s skill set, level of experience applicable to the role they are being offered and consideration to internal equity.

We pay our people competitively in the markets in which we compete for talent and with consideration to internal equity and job structure. We aim for actual pay to be around the median of the market for target or expected levels of performance, and around the upper quartile of the market for excellent performance.

Actual salaries may vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors, including, but not limited to, experience and expertise.
