Senior Engineer – Product Certification

Location: Kearny Mesa, San Diego, CA (onsite)

Summary

Solar Turbines designs and manufactures industrial gas turbine packages for global Oil & Gas and Power Generation applications. The Product Certification Engineering team ensures these systems meet global safety, regulatory, and compliance requirements across all markets.

We are seeking a motivated Senior Engineer to support product compliance and safety for global sales orders. This role works closely with Project Design Engineering, Business Management, and Package Systems Operations to ensure Solar’s products meet applicable regulations, directives, and industry standards. The position is essential to safe, timely project execution. Experience with industrial equipment, rotating machinery, or complex mechanical/electrical systems is highly valuable.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure product compliance with applicable regulations, directives, codes, and standards.
  • Support Project Design Engineering during sales order execution for global package systems.
  • Develop working knowledge of key standards (UL/CSA, NEC/NFPA, CE Marking, ATEX/PED, IEC/ISO, and regional requirements).
  • Build expertise in one or more domains such as hazardous locations, machinery safety, functional safety, marine certification, or CE/UL compliance.
  • Interface with certification agencies and suppliers; communicate technical requirements clearly to internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Apply a riskbased approach to Machinery/Product Safety and support designforcompliance principles.
  • Contribute to standardized work, certification test planning, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide compliance guidance to design, production, manufacturing, and commissioning teams.
  • Demonstrate strong engineering judgment, communication skills, and the ability to meet rapid project schedules.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years relevant engineering experience.
  • Familiarity with mechanical systems, machinery installations, and industrial applications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Product Certification or regulatory compliance experience.
  • Project/Program Management or Application Engineering experience.
  • Mechanical, hydromechanical, or electrical package design experience.
  • Quality Management or audit experience.
  • Internal Field Representative or commissioning support experience.
  • Experience working with certifying bodies such as UL, CSA, DNV, TÜV, or Lloyd’s Register.
  • Experience with regulatory compliance for industrial machinery or equipment.

Additional Information

This is an onsite role based in Kearny Mesa, San Diego, with no travel required. New team members will complete a structured, competencybased training program delivered in two phases with increasing subject complexity. Training is supported by onthejob mentorship from senior engineers, process owners, and the group manager. We offer a collaborative engineering environment with strong technical mentorship, standardized work processes, and longterm skill development opportunities. Ideal candidates are interested in building deep technical expertise within Certification Engineering.

Summary Pay Range:

$112,704.00 - $169,056.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
