The Opportunity
Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is seeking an Academic Advisor to support student success, retention, and degree completion by providing personalized academic guidance and exceptional student service. The Academic Advisor serves as a trusted resource for students throughout their academic journey, from admission through graduation, by helping students navigate degree requirements, academic policies, registration processes, and university resources.
This role provides an opportunity to make a meaningful impact by building relationships with students, developing individualized academic plans, identifying barriers to success, and connecting students with campus resources that support their educational goals. The Academic Advisor collaborates with faculty and university departments to promote student engagement, persistence, and overall academic achievement.
Key Responsibilities
Academic Advising & Student Success
Provide comprehensive academic advising to students regarding degree programs, curriculum requirements, academic policies, procedures, transfer credits, prerequisites, graduation requirements, and interpretation of Official Advising Reports.
Develop personalized degree completion plans and guide students through course selection, registration, and academic planning to support timely graduation.
Monitor student academic progress throughout enrollment terms and provide proactive outreach, guidance, and intervention when challenges arise.
Advise students regarding program changes, academic petitions, curriculum waivers, catalog changes, graduation applications, and other academic requests.
Provide individualized support to at-risk students, including those on conditional admission, academic warning, or probation, by developing student success plans and monitoring progress.
Collaborate with faculty and university departments to address academic challenges and support student retention and persistence.
Promote institutional initiatives, scholarships, financial aid opportunities, honor societies, career resources, and student engagement programs.
Student Outreach & Engagement
Proactively communicate with students through phone, email, text/chat, and virtual meetings to provide guidance and promote student success.
Contact students throughout their academic journey, including newly admitted students, enrolled students, inactive students, and graduating students.
Welcome newly admitted students by providing information on degree requirements, enrollment steps, financial resources, orientation, and required university tasks.
Conduct regular student outreach to assess academic progress, address concerns, and identify resources needed for successful course completion.
Encourage student participation in advising appointments, university services, and engagement opportunities.
Support student transitions by congratulating graduates, recognizing academic achievements, and promoting alumni and university engagement opportunities.
Student Records & Administrative Support
Maintain accurate student records and documentation within university systems, including Campus Solutions, Salesforce, SharePoint, Imaging, and other applicable platforms.
Document advising interactions, student progress, and action plans through detailed advisor notes.
Analyze student academic records to identify enrollment concerns, degree progression issues, and opportunities for intervention.
Evaluate prerequisite completion and ensure students are meeting curriculum requirements.
Manage an assigned caseload of approximately 250 students while supporting enrollment goals and student persistence initiatives.
Prepare and review student reports, track academic trends, and contribute data insights related to retention and student success.
Provide coverage and support for team members’ student caseloads as needed.
Serve as a liaison between students and university offices, including Financial Aid, Military and Veteran Affairs, Student Financial Services, the Registrar, Bookstore, and other support departments.

Compensation
The annual salary range for this role is up to $43,888. The final offer will be based on the candidate’s skills, qualifications, and experience, as well as applicable state regulations, internal equity, and business needs, and may fall outside of the stated range.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
1–3 years of related work experience in student support, academic advising, student services, higher education, or a related field.
Experience providing guidance, support, or customer service to students or other stakeholders.
Demonstrated ability to analyze information, identify solutions, and make informed decisions using sound judgment.
Experience working with student information systems and maintaining accurate records.
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret student records, academic information, policies, and procedures.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook/email, and internet-based end-user applications.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with students, faculty, staff, and other university stakeholders.
Strong customer service skills with the ability to provide a high level of support to students, colleagues, faculty, and other constituents.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with supervisors, managers, team members, and university partners.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain attention to detail.
Comfortable conducting frequent proactive outreach and communication with students and stakeholders through phone, email, text/chat, and virtual meetings.
Ability to recognize priorities, take initiative, perform duties beyond assigned tasks when needed, and provide support to team members.
Ability to quickly learn new systems, processes, and technologies while adapting to changing environments.
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to investigate issues, identify appropriate solutions, and take corrective action.
Ability to maintain a positive, professional, and student-focused approach in all interactions.
