Position Summary

Develops and leads a strategic, data-driven approach to key communications initiatives in support of enhancing the reputation and growth of the school, ranging from media relations and digital outreach to development communications and recruitment campaigns.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

Strategic Communication Planning

  • Develops and implements a strategic communications plan to increase the national and international visibility of scholarly achievements, faculty thought leaders and new academic initiatives. 
  • Guides leadership in developing and implementing a strategic communications plan in support of the priorities, objectives and academic planning.
  • Develops executive communications materials and/or communications plans as needed.
  • Works closely with the Dean of the School of Public Health and Associate Dean for Strategic Initiatives and Chief of Staff in planning the agenda, goals and related materials for special outreach and/or academic meetings as needed.
  • Oversees the development of internal communications.
  • Oversees the development of external communications.
  • Develops and implements strategies for science and research communications to nationally and internationally position the SPH as a leader.
  • Develops and implements key development communications.
  • Oversees photography, videography and other multimedia content development.
  • Coordinates with Director of Admissions and Recruitment on student recruitment marketing/communication plans and tactics.
  • Advises on science communications and helps ensure strong collaboration between units.
  • Oversees the development of impact reporting for annual communications and targeted campaigns.
  • Generates and analyzes data, to evaluate marketing and communications efforts, to support the work of accreditation, and to inform ongoing planning.
  • Collaborates with other staff leads on the dissemination and communication of information to departmental leadership in order to support and promote a culture of informed, data-driven decision-making at all levels.

Digital Platform Management

  • Oversees the planning and implementation of strategic messaging across print, web and social media communications; including the school’s website and social media channels.
  • Develops, directs, and oversees digital delivery systems related to online appointment scheduling, student/constituent communication systems, content management systems, and analytics. 
  • Develops and manages all data collection efforts for online forms, document solutions, and digital workflow processes for school.
  • Facilitates webinars for school.

Change Management

  • Responsible for creating change management strategies and plans that maximize employee adoption and minimize resistance for a variety of organizational transformations.
  • Creates and executes tailored change management plans to accommodate the needs of all stakeholder groups impacted by the change and move the organization through the ADKAR transition. 
  • Identifies metrics and vehicles to measure performance and progress of engagement, readiness, and adoption. Analyzes feedback for trends, insights, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Documents and creates solutions for identifying, tracking, and analyzing issues that arise as a result of change implementation including response strategies.
  • Works closely with Dean and Associate Dean for Strategic Initiatives and Chief of Staff to ensure alignment with project/program change management plans.

Manage Communications Staff

  • Creates SPH Communications organization, building out the needed human and system resources for effective communication.
  • Oversees hiring, training, development, motivation, and management of staff including employee performance review and maintenance of staffing plans.
  • Develops and implements policies, systems, and procedures that foster a positive culture and maximize cross-functional collaboration.
  • Ensures staff understands and participates in the development of communications strategy. 

Other Functions

  • Develops strong relationships and collaborate with key team members in MarComm and Communications teams in the other schools.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Salary Range

$75,200.00 - $128,800.00 / Annually

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
