Peck Tech, a wholly owned subsidiary of Caterpillar Inc. since 2020, specializes in advanced sensing, monitoring, and control technologies for both open-pit and underground mining. With over 30 years of industry collaboration, Peck Tech bridges the gap between OEMs, OTMs, mining customers, and research institutions to deliver cutting-edge solutions. Based in Montreal, the multidisciplinary team brings deep expertise across electrical, mechanical, software, and mining engineering. Currently, Peck Tech is leading the development of autonomous blasthole drilling and precision mining innovations for Caterpillar’s global mining customers.

As the Automation Designer, you will be responsible for assisting in the design, definition, development, and test of the robotics software development, while collaborating with senior designers to ensure that internal and external clients’ needs are met.

• This position requires the selected individual to work onsite at the Montreal, QC office.

What You Will Do:

• Collecting and researching data on customer experience with robotic platforms; preparing reports for management.
• Documenting architecture specifications, software design description, verification plans, test cases, operating procedures, and safety procedures.
• Utilizing appropriate tools to debug, test and maintain software and hardware systems of robotic tools; assisting in the verification and validation process.
• Participating in design and development of application software and algorithms for robotic platforms.
• Other duties as assigned by Caterpillar management from time-to-time.

What You Have (Basic Requirements):

• Bachelor’s degree in an accredited Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
• Industry Knowledge: Knowledge of the organization's industry group, trends, directions, major issues, regulatory considerations, and trendsetters; ability to apply industry knowledge appropriately to diverse situations.
• Problem Solving: Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.
• Software Development Lifecycle: Knowledge of software development life cycle; ability to use a structured methodology for delivering and managing new or enhanced software products to the marketplace.
• Software Product Testing: Knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges.
• Application Development Tools: Knowledge of application and system development; ability to utilize a variety of specific tools and toolkits for developing applications.
• Artificial Intelligence: Knowledge of the concepts, technologies and methodologies of artificial intelligence (AI); ability to develop, implement and/or apply artificial intelligence products and services in specific industry domain to achieve business goals.
• Programming: Knowledge of relevant programming languages and tools; ability to test, write, design, debug, troubleshoot and maintain source codes and computer programs.
• Technical Troubleshooting: Knowledge of technical troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, recognize, and resolve technical issues on hardware, software, application or operation.

En tant que Concepteur en automatisation, vous serez responsable d’assister à la conception, à la définition, au développement et aux tests des logiciels de robotique, tout en collaborant avec des concepteurs seniors afin de garantir que les besoins des clients internes et externes soient satisfaits.

Ce que vous ferez:

• Collecter et analyser des données sur l’expérience client avec les plateformes robotiques, et préparer des rapports destinés à la direction.

Summary Pay Range:

$89,790.00 - $112,240.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
