Job Summary

The base location for this position is flexible within the Duke Energy Florida Fleet.

Power Generation Operations for Regulated Utilities is responsible for generating electric power 24/7 in a safe, reliable, and environmentally responsible manner.  To be successful, the fleet requires certain technical expertise for the specification, design, and maintenance of building, mechanical and electrical systems, components, and equipment.  These systems include everything from fuel delivery through the delivery of electric energy to the high-voltage grid.  The Engineering organization is tasked with being knowledgeable and qualified to perform these tasks.  In addition, this organization is responsible for setting and implementing a consistent set of standards for the facilities operated throughout the fleet.

This position is responsible for providing leadership of engineers and other technical staff within Central Engineering & Services in the support of fossil, hydro and CT stations. This position provides administrative and technical management of engineers and other technical staff.  Sets performance expectations, provides feedback in performance reviews, balances workloads and resource needs, and the review and approval of technical specifications and recommendations for purchase of engineered equipment.  Insures adherence of personnel to administrative initiatives, safety and compliance training and personal development plans.  Responsible for the development and staffing of a workforce plan to support stations emerging needs. Creates and supports new initiatives in work methods, services and technical innovations to enhance the competitive advantage of engineering and the corporation.

Responsibilities

  • Administer technical professionals.  Administration activities include; staffing to support work activities, personnel performance appraisal, employee development, training requirements, and communication of corporate expectations.

  • Overseeing assigned work and assuring quality of work being performed.  Provide leadership and engineering expertise for technical team.

  • Develop and/or maintain the standards and specifications required for a consistent approach to our technical issues.

  • Responding to emergent requests for services.

  • Interfacing with operations personnel to understand the issues they are facing and to provide solutions to problems that serve the need of operations in a timely manner while maintaining the configuration in a safe, reliable and environmentally responsible state.

Basic/Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering
  • Minimum 8 years related work experience

  • Professional Engineer

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Must possess significant understanding of the design processes associated with non-nuclear fueled power generation facilities.

  • Candidate should be experienced with the design engineering processes associated with non-nuclear fueled power generation technology. 

  • It is also preferred that the candidate possess strong leadership skills and is able to routinely interact with executive management due to the high relative value of these components. 

  • Ensures that Environmental and Health & Safety Considerations is/are included in Project Execution (ie. Environmental Checklists). Additionally, the candidate should be strong with business acumen.

Working Conditions

  • Onsite Mobility Classification – Work will be performed at a company facility.

  • The majority of the work is in an office location with frequent visits to plant sites and work locations. 

  • This manager should expect to travel 15-25% of their time.
