The main purpose of this role is to enhance Tandem’s NII through efficient management of its balance sheet and supporting effective pricing decisions.  The role will also support Tandem’s ILAAP.

We are Tandem - Where impact meets innovation

Tandem is the UK's greener digital bank on a bold quest to revolutionise the way we save, borrow, spend, and share – all while nurturing our planet, our people and our customers. As one of Europe’s fastest growing digital banks, our values of being Brave, Enterprising, Simple, and Together (BEST) ensure our 500-strong team collaborate to drive a brighter, greener future.

Tandem also leads the way with a secondary app called Loop. Loop gives customers a simpler, hassle free and awkward free way to share money among friends.

Your team: Collaborators in change

Tandem is seeking to optimise its NII in a way which will allow the Bank to achieve its growth plans in a prudent and sustainable way.  The team operates on a hybrid basis, with frequent opportunities to meet up and work collaboratively, either in London or Blackpool.

As Balance Sheet you will play a key role in enhancing Tandem’s pricing & balance sheet management capabilities; you will work with teams from Treasury, Finance and across the Bank to support optimisation of Tandem’s NII through carefully balancing its lending growth, funding requirements and hedging activities in a way which will allow the Bank to achieve its growth plans in a prudent and sustainable way.  This is an important role which will work across the Treasury and Finance departments and we are looking to recruit someone highly commercial who has a good understanding of interest rate risk and pricing and who can play a leading role in the team.

Your Impact: Building a greener tomorrow:

In this role your focus will be on:

  • NII Optimisation, achieved through:
  • Monitoring Tandem’s lending origination and margin against the medium term plan.
  • Reviewing and challenging pricing assumptions, modelling and proposals
  • Reviewing performance of FTP and Pricing calculations and recommending improvements.
  • Proposing funding growth strategies which align to lending growth plans while ensuring compliance with Tandem’s liquidity risk framework.
  • Proposing hedging strategies which carefully manage current and future risks to NII while taking account of expected customer behaviours.
  • Ensuring that Tandem’s funds transfer pricing takes adequate account of current costs and expected future risks.
  • Advising on asset and liability pricing, including identifying opportunities to improve, with a view to optimising Tandem’s margin/volume mix.
  • Preparing reports for ALCO and PRICECO which track actual NII performance against the Plan and explain any deviations.
  • Taking a leading role in the delivery of Tandem’s annual ILAAP.
  • Supporting other areas of Treasury and Finance where required.

We’d love to hear from you if you have:

  • Can put together a decent presentation.
  • Can be self-sufficient, you’ll be required to take ownership and won’t be micro managed.
  • Have good commercial acumen, able to consider and call out inconsistencies, areas to focus on or opportunities to for improvements.

It would be great, but not essential if you have:

  • Treasury/Accounting or similar qualification; CertBALM, ACCA, ACT, CFA, CIMA.
  • Previous experience with SQL
  • Experience of working in the Treasury department of a mid-sized building society or challenger bank.
