The Opportunity

Manulife is seeking an expert Data Systems and Support Engineer to join our Canadian Data Office team, as we continue our journey onto the cutting edge Microsoft Azure cloud based data technology stack, including components such as ADLS storage, Synapse, Databricks and Azure Data Factory. The successful candidate will be responsible for responding to incidents and enhancing availability within our existing data systems, supporting users of the data environment, conducting ongoing operations as well as planning and implementing the modernization and improvement of our data systems.
 

Responsibilities

  • Provide support of various cloud systems
  • Act as point of contact for downtime communication to end-user groups
  • Create and update user documentation and procedures
  • Work closely with IT Security teams to coordinate system hardening, patching, and security updates
  • Monitor cloud based systems including critical data pipeline and help lead to resolve performance issues
  • Conduct ongoing operations such as leading user access in accordance with access policies
  • Depending on capacity, also supporting the team with various data engineering tasks including ingestion of data sources into the data lakehouse environment

What we are looking for

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent experience in technical field
  • Working knowledge of Windows Server in Enterprise environment
  • Experience with performance monitoring MS SQL Server
  • Experience working with Azure Cloud and Azure Classic virtual machines
  • Experience monitoring IT Infrastructure for its availability, capacity, hardware and OS
  • Knowledge of supported technologies (i.e. Azure, Databricks, Synapse, SSIS, Terraform)
  • Ability to build relationships, engage and influence others, work with business units, architects, peers and partners globally
  • Experience working within an Agile methodology

Salary range is expected to be between

$74,270.00 CAD - $137,930.00 CAD
