Responsibilities:
Perform systems studies and collaborate with GE Vernova colleagues and consultants to assess the performance of HVDC systems and their impact on the transmission grid, including, but not limited to, steady-state, dynamic and transient studies as well as harmonics study.
Develop and review technical specifications of HVDC systems, ancillary equipment and engineering services in accordance with international standards, best practices and relevant industry standards.
Provide project development support in areas of technical feasibility, conceptual design, and detailed design associated with HVDC projects including front end engineering design (FEED).
Evaluate grid code compliance standards and their impact on HVDC projects in bulk power systems
Lead technical discussions and negotiations with manufacturers, suppliers and contractors during feasibility assessment, detailed design and tendering to ensure no gap in scope and compliance with the technical requirements.
Document technology and results through patent applications, technical reports, and publications.
Ensure that solutions adopted are both technically appropriate and that GE Vernova has freedom to utilize these solutions.
Transfer technology to engineering teams in GE Vernova to be included in next generation products and services.
Stay current with advances in system technologies to seek out new ideas and applications.
Work in a team environment with colleagues across GE Vernova including its Advanced Research Center, and partners from industry, academia, and government agencies.
Requirements:
Doctorate (PhD) degree in an Engineering field with a minimum of 7 years of experience in design, development and validation of inverter-based resources interconnecting with transmission power systems or a Master’s degree in an Engineering field with a minimum of 10 years of experience in design, development and validation of inverter-based resources interconnecting with transmission power systems.
3 to 5 years experience in power system simulations including power flow, short-circuit, dynamic and transient stability analyses.
3 to 5 years experience in PSCAD-EMTDC, PSS/E, EMTP, RTDS, Opal-RT.
3 to 5 years experience in interconnection or planning studies
Eligibility:
Ability and willingness to travel 10% of the time, including international, and must comply with all relevant company travel and tax policies.
Minimum of 3 days per week in the office in Niskayuna, NY.
Desired:
Solid understanding of inverter-based resources design, control and applications considerations (e.g., HVDC converter, HVDC multiterminal scheme, Wind/solar converter, STATCOM, SVC, Rectifiers, Filters, Drives, etc).
Proven knowledge and practical experience in performing the specific aspects of design, implementation and testing of HVDC power transmission schemes and equipment.
Deep understanding of HVDC schemes including Voltage Source Converter (VSC) and LCC (Line Commutated Converter).
Experience of working with HVDC OEMs, HVDC project owners, transmission system owners/operators or consultancies delivering to such projects.
Demonstrable knowledge of HVDC system/equipment including land and submarine cables, converter transformer, circuit breakers, reactors, surge arrestors, VSC and LCC HVDC technologies, and its auxiliary systems.
Experience with real-time implementation of system solutions in a variety of hardware platforms including development of hardware-in-the-loop simulation platforms for control performance validation.
Experience in transient overvoltage analysis including insulation coordination design.
Experience in harmonic performance design and mitigation measures.
Experience in both steady-state and transient circuit analysis.
Experience in developing technical specifications of high voltage power equipment.
Familiar with interconnection and interoperability standards of inverter-based resources such as IEEE 2800.
Experience with application for government funding and project proposal writing including tendering document for commercial offers.
Ability to communicate effectively with senior leadership.
Experience interacting with customers and regulatory stakeholders (e.g. TSO, ISOs, etc).
Experience with program management, which includes setting up schedules, milestones, technical reviews, tracking funding, etc.
Demonstrated ability to take an innovative idea from a concept to a product

For candidates applying to a U.S. based position, the pay range for this position is between $113,200.00 and $188,800.00. The Company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120% or 130% of salary in certain areas. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set.
Bonus eligibility: discretionary annual bonus.
