Job Description:

General Description: Under minimal direction, performs various supervisory duties that ensure proper therapeutic treatment is delivered to patients.  Under general direction, performs various therapeutic physical therapy treatments according to physician’s orders.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Provides direct physical therapy care in accordance with established policies and procedures of OU Health.
  • In collaboration with the patient, the patient’s family and other members of the healthcare team, evaluates, plans and implements physical therapy interventions to assigned patients to provide interdisciplinary patient care. 
  • May have extensive professional work experience in a specialized setting (i.e. outpatients, Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit or Hospital, pediatrics, inpatient trauma/critical care, wound care, etc. >4000 hours).
  • Demonstrates continuing education/training in clinically related areas (i.e. musculoskeletal, spine, neurological, wound care, oncology, pediatrics, cardiopulmonary, women’s health, hand therapy, etc.), or certification (i.e. McKenzie Back Program, neurodevelopmental treatment [NDT], wound care, ped-orthotist, pelvic floor/incontinence, lymphedema - MLD, hand therapy,  APTA Board Certification, etc.), or clinical expertise (evidenced by published articles, chapters in professional publications, presenting papers/programs at state or national professional meetings, guest lecturing at PT/PTA academic programs, etc.).
  •  Based on assignment, may supervise students.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Therapy

Experience: Two (2) years experience working in Physical Therapy.                 

License(s)/Certification(s)/Registration(s) Required: Current license from the Oklahoma Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision as a Physical Therapist. Current Basic Life Support issued by the American Heart Association required upon hire.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of the principles, methods, practices, techniques, equipment and procedures used in physical therapy.  Knowledge of anatomy and physiology sufficient to evaluate and treat patients.  Knowledge of equipment and the ability to adjust equipment to suit patient’s needs.  Must be able to maintain effective working relationships with staff; excellent communication skills in guiding patients to assume responsibility for their treatment and development.  Knowledge of computers.
