Position Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Business Analyst to join KSM’s Information Technology team with a primary focus on supporting technology and process improvement initiatives for the firm’s Tax Services group. This role is well suited for a seasoned business analyst with experience in professional services or complex, deadline-driven environments who enjoys partnering with business stakeholders to improve efficiency, consistency, and system adoption.

The Business Analyst will work closely with Tax Services leadership, end users, IT teams, and technology vendors to analyze existing workflows, identify improvement opportunities, and help implement technology-enabled solutions. This includes deploying and supporting enterprise tax and compliance platforms and related systems, as well as improving integrations, reporting, and user experience.

This role plays a key part in helping Tax Services operate more efficiently by translating business needs into clear requirements, supporting system enhancements and rollouts, and ensuring solutions are practical and scalable. Experience with automation, workflow optimization, or applied AI solutions within a business or professional services environment is a strong plus.

Responsibilities:

•    Partner with Tax Services stakeholders to understand business processes, system usage, pain points, and opportunities for increased efficiency and automation
•    Conduct As-Is / To-Be process analysis focused on tax preparation, review, compliance, and related operational processes.
•    Gather, document, and manage business and system requirements related to tax technology platforms, integrations, and workflow improvements.
•    Support enhancements and initiatives involving CCH Axcess Tax, CCH Engagement, and other enterprise CPA firm tax and compliance systems.
•    Collaborate with IT teams, vendors, and product owners to ensure solutions meet the practical needs of tax professionals.
•    Develop test plans, acceptance criteria, and validation scenarios to ensure tax-related system changes function as expected in real-world use.
•    Assist with rollouts, end-user training, and adoption of new tax tools, features, and processes, ensuring smooth transitions during and outside of busy season.
•    Maintain clear documentation including process flows, requirements, data mappings, and user guidance tailored to tax users.
•    Identify opportunities for automation, workflow optimization, and applied AI to reduce manual effort and improve consistency in tax processes.
•    Serve as a trusted liaison between Tax Services and IT, translating tax practice needs into actionable technology solutions.

Requirements/Qualifications:

Experience
•    3+ years of experience as a Business Analyst, Systems Analyst, or in a related role supporting enterprise business applications; experience in a professional services environment strongly preferred.
•    Prior experience supporting accounting, tax, compliance, or other regulated business functions is a plus, but direct tax practice or CPA firm experience is not required.
•    Demonstrated experience documenting business processes, performing gap analysis, and supporting system or process improvements.
•    Ability to work effectively in deadline-driven, compliance-oriented environments and adapt to seasonal workload fluctuations.
•    Holding an active CPA license or having comparable tax preparation experience is a significant advantage for this role, but not a requirement.

Agile Delivery Experience
•    Experience in Agile or Hybrid (waterfall and hybrid) delivery models based on an MVP mindset
•    Experience creating user stories with acceptance criteria and definition of done to support incremental delivery and continuous improvement.

Soft Skills
•    Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail.
•    Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
•    Ability to translate complex business needs into clear technical requirements.
•    Proven ability to facilitate end-user training and change management initiatives.

Certifications (Preferred)
•    Preferred certifications: Certified Scrum Master (CSM), PMI-ACP (Agile Certified Practitioner), or SAFe Business Analyst certification.
