About The Team:

The Marketing and Subscriptions Strategy team is responsible for growing the subscriber base of Dow Jones consumer products globally, across WSJ, Barron's, MarketWatch and Investor's Business Daily. The team sits within the Marketing organization and sets strategic plans and priorities for each line of business.

We are hiring a Senior Director, Mobile Subscription Strategy to work specifically on The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), focusing on app/mobile marketing, pricing strategy, and digital add-on/upsell product offerings. In this role, you will report to the VP, Global Marketing & Subscription Strategy, WSJ and work on-site in our NYC office 3 days every week.

About The Role:

You will expand The Wall Street Journal's paid customer base and revenue, working cross-functionally with various teams to help set, operationalize, and achieve subscription growth. To this end, you will analyze data, insights, and performance to inform and develop strategies.

On a day-to-day basis you will work in a general marketing management capacity, collaborating to develop and execute marketing programs/initiatives, ensuring all areas of the business are aligned and working toward the same strategic goals. The cross-functional teams with which you will partner include performance marketing, brand marketing, data science and analytics, audience development, customer insight, product, finance, legal, operations, customer service, and editorial.

You Will:

  • Develop marketing programs and initiatives with functional teams that deliver global subscription growth. Serve as the day-to-day strategic and executional partner and leader.
  • Understand and promote a customer-first mindset by ensuring our key audience segments are embedded within full-funnel marketing campaigns and initiatives, and using customer insights to drive growth. Serve as a champion for the customer across the company.
  • Work closely with the data and consumer insights teams to identify trends and opportunities that support business cases to accelerate subscriber and revenue growth.
  • Attend regular meetings with marketing and cross-functional teams to ensure all are delivering on agreed plans that drive strategic goals. Manage tactical initiatives to ensure timely, on-budget execution.
  • Understand the competitive landscape to identify market opportunities and risks.

You Have:

  • The willingness to work in our midtown Manhattan office 3 days each week
  • 14+ years of relevant digital marketing and strategy experience in a commercial role, with at least 7 years on a subscription business specializing in App/Mobile subscriptions, pricing and product strategy; working in media or publishing sectors is a plus
  • Experience supporting and helping to build an app-first/mobile-first subscription business
  • Expertise in acquisition, engagement, and retention levers that drive revenue and subscription growth, with substantial hands-on experience in these areas too
  • Highly effective leadership skills with the proven ability to successfully develop and operationalize plans and rally cross-functional teams toward common financial and strategic goals
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills
  • An entrepreneurial spirit. You thrive in a fast-paced, start-up-like environment, work comfortably autonomously to drive results, and can proactively identify new opportunities to grow subscriptions
  • Superior analytical skills with a data-driven mind-set. Effectively storytell with data to craft strategies and business cases, working closely with our data science and analytics team
  • Strong financial acumen with P/L experience
  • Demonstrated experience successfully leading the execution of complex projects
  • See the "big picture" and impact holistically and turn individual tactics into programs of work
  • Ability to look ahead to understand how market trends will impact the business and pivot accordingly

Pay Range: $170,000 - $210,000
