The Chemours Corpus Christi facility is located across the bay from Corpus Christi Texas, between Portland and Ingleside Texas. Chemours has a position available for a Mechanical Engineer with proven Rotating expertise. This position will report to the site Manufacturing Technology Manager.

The Chemours Corpus Christi site is part of the Thermal & Specialized Solutions Business and focuses on the production of several different refrigerant gases. The site is a multi-unit manufacturing site with several existing well-established product lines as well as a recently built Low GWP production line aligning with growing market demand.

This role will serve as a Plant Support Engineer for one or more areas of the Chemours Assets at this facility. The individual will provide overall Mechanical Engineering guidance and support for the Operations, Maintenance, and Technology Teams for their area(s). This role will entail involvement in day-to-day troubleshooting in the plant, as well as support for improvement programs in the areas of Safety (PSM), UPTIME, reliability, cost, new capital installations.

Responsibilities: 

The operating units are designated as highly hazardous processes (OSHA PSM Covered Processes). The role will include but are not be limited to the following:

  • Provide mechanical expertise for troubleshooting, maintaining, and modifying operating equipment and facilities

  • Provide technical troubleshooting and training to the operating and maintenance teams

  • Provide Mechanical expertise for project work to ensure its compliance with specifications, engineering standards and quality assurance

  • Lead PSM criticality assessment process to ensure adequate rationale is provided to develop and manage the MIQA effort, including critical spare parts, SAP data, inspection plans and frequencies, and maintenance procedures

  • Analyze equipment trends, historical data, and uptime data to recommend and justify improvements to obtain lowest life cycle cost on different classes of equipment

  • Leads and participates in Safety, Reliability and Quality Investigations

  • Participate in maintenance and reliability networks and share best practices, successes, and failures

  • Perform failure mode and effect analyses to develop appropriate equipment maintenance plans to include equipment checks and predictive preventative maintenance (PPM) performed by operations and mechanics.

  • Provides support for both cost and capital projects, including scoping out, justifying, and coordinating installation of new/modified facilities

  • Maintain personal level of technical expertise in key technologies via training, seminars, and professional organizations

  • Provide shift/weekend coverage for start-ups, tests, maintenance Turnarounds or other non-routine needs

  • Travel requirements are <15%.

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited University

  • 2+ years of related industrial / manufacturing work experience in Rotating Equipment (will consider degree relevant intern / co-op experience counting toward this requirement)

    • Rotating equipment and alignment techniques, and basic materials science including material selection and properties.

    • Lubrication fundamentals and tribology techniques.

    • Basic pumps principles, understanding performance curves. Mechanical seals API plans.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of mechanical engineering rotating equipment principles

  • Strong ability to diagnose and solve technical problems – making data-based decisions.

  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with strong customer focus and ability to conceptualize customer needs based on customer input.  Proven ability to effectively communicate through all levels of an organization

  • Prior experience working with technical resources and/or field personnel in operations troubleshooting activities

  • High degree of initiative and flexibility to move projects forward safely and in a timely manner

  • Proven ability to prioritize and manage short duration deadlines, emergency situations, and multiple priorities

  • Willing and able to wear required PPE (personal protective equipment) such as steel toes, hard hat, Nomex, eye protection, respirators, etc.

The following skill-sets are preferred by the business unit:

  • 5+ years of experience working as Mechanical Engineering – Rotating equipment related activities.

  • Already well experienced with strong background in the following:

  • Maintenance and reliability best practices including the work management process

  • Fundamentals of interpreting oil analysis results, vibration analysis and data interpretation, and fundamentals of nondestructive testing

  • Experience in working with rotating equipment such as air compressors or large industrial refrigeration equipment

  • Root cause failure analysis (RCFA) and failure mode and effect analysis (FMEA), data analysis techniques and statistical interpretation skills, failure analysis including preservation of evidence techniques, engineering design standards and their application, Cost/Capital analysis and justification

  • Strong Process Safety Management (PSM) background

  • Previous experience working with SAP

$97,843.00 - $152,880.00

Annual Bonus Target:

6%
