About This Opportunity 

We are seeking a diligent and energetic Storeperson to support the day-to-day operations of the UQ Science Store.

Reporting to the Senior Manager HSW, and working under the supervision of the Stores Operations Officer, the role is responsible for the provision of first line support and advice to store clients on product selection, goods receipt, supply and delivery, and collection of chemical waste.  Daily store duties of this position are varied and are determined primarily by client needs.

Key responsibilities include:  

  • Assist clients with inquiries about chemicals, laboratory consumables, or chemical waste by phone, email, or in person.

  • Receive deliveries, check against purchase orders, identify stock lines, and manage back orders and redistributions.

  • Report any delivery discrepancies to suppliers and conduct stock counts to determine daily stock needs.

  • Pick and pack orders for chemicals and laboratory consumables, as well as prepare chemical waste bottles and labels daily for delivery.

  • Deliver chemicals and collect chemical waste from schools and centers, ensuring compliance with dangerous goods regulations.

  • Assist with laboratory relocations of hazardous chemicals between sites.

  • Operate manual handling equipment, Mobile Elevated Work Platform, Self Contained Breathing Apparatus, and forklift truck as required.

  • Assist with monthly safety audits and other duties as directed by the Store Manager.

  • Adhere to Workplace Health and Safety regulations and wear required PPE.

About You

  • Completion of trades certificate or Certificate III; or Completion of Year 12 or a Certificate II with relevant work experience.

  • Unrestricted current drivers license

  • Relevant stores experience

  • Ability to prioritise work and perform in an efficient and timely manner

  • Computer literacy and good keyboard skills with the ability to accurately process client orders and goods receipt

  • Good oral and written communication skills, including a professional telephone manner

  • Ability to work in a flexible team environment

  • A strong orientation to the provision of a high level of client service

  • An understanding of and commitment to the principles of equity and equal opportunity

Desirable

  • Experience working with chemicals

  • Forklift Licence (Licence to Perform High Risk Work QLD - LF)

  • Operate Elevating Work Platform (EWP Under 11m) competency
