Job Summary:
Caterpillar is seeking a well‑qualified D365 Product Owner, who will be responsible for supporting the full functional needs of the Caterpillar Enterprise Resource Platform (ERP) template for Caterpillar Dealers. The Caterpillar ERP solution will be built on Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations, with specialization in Finance and preferred knowledge in Supply Chain Management (SCM) and Project Operations. The ideal candidate will lead end‑to‑end implementations, architect scalable solutions, and drive integrations across enterprise systems, ensuring compliance with Microsoft standards while guiding organizations through digital transformation initiatives. Additionally, the candidate will contribute to solutioning and developing D365 templates for implementation.
What You Will Do:
The D365 Product Owner collaborates with stakeholders to capture and define requirements that align with both system capabilities and operational objectives. Working closely with product development engineers, the Product owner oversees and communicates progress across design, development, support, and maintenance activities. This role also champions continuous improvement initiatives to optimize D365 operational efficiency and enhance reporting accuracy.
Key responsibilities include:
Product Vision & Strategy
- Define and own Dynamics 365 F&O architecture across Finance, preferred Supply Chain, and Project Operations, ensuring alignment with Caterpillar’s enterprise vision.
- Translate complex business requirements into secure, high‑performing ERP solutions tailored for Caterpillar’s industry.
- Partner with stakeholders to define roadmaps, integrations, and reporting strategies across Finance, SCM, and CE domains.
- Drive integration strategies between CE, F&O, third‑party, and legacy systems (including Dual Write and Dataverse).
System Ownership
- Design and configure Finance, Supply Chain, Procurement, Inventory, and Production modules to meet Caterpillar dealer needs.
- Stay current with Microsoft D365 updates and recommend architecture enhancements that improve operational efficiency.
- Manage functional and technical interfaces, ensuring seamless integration with CE, ISV solutions, and Power Platform.
Requirements Definition
- Collaborate with Caterpillar, Caterpillar Dealers, and business stakeholders to elicit and document ERP requirements.
- Conduct gap/fit analysis across Finance and SCM workstreams, ensuring compliance with Caterpillar’s standards.
- Prepare technical documentation and training materials for engineering teams, alongside non‑technical presentations for stakeholders.
- Communicate end‑user feedback to technology teams to improve product quality and roadmap alignment.
Delivery & Execution
- Play a key role in conducting risk assessments, root cause analysis, corrective actions, and quality assurance processes.
- Oversee issue resolution and corrective actions to maintain Caterpillar’s quality and security standards.
- Perform volume testing, regression testing, and end‑to‑end integration testing by modeling real‑world scenarios.
- Create automated test cases/suites and utilize automated testing tools to perform and report on testing outcomes.
- Provide support to architects and engineers by fulfilling testing requests, preparing reports, and offering technical assistance.
Release Management
- Partner with cross‑functional teams to manage release dependencies and clarify ERP requirements.
- Manage DevOps pipelines, CI/CD, and environment strategies for F&O and CE projects.
- Oversee Lifecycle Services (LCS) and Power Platform Admin Center (PPAC), plan various testing before code releases across Dev/UAT/Prod environments.
Stakeholder Management
- Act as a product advocate within the engineering team, ensuring QA and testing insights are incorporated into product improvements.
- Build strong relationships with Caterpillar Digital leads, external vendors, and Caterpillar Dealers to align ERP architecture with business goals.
Change Management
- Identify opportunities to improve dealer processes and drive operational consistency across Finance and SCM.
- Manage change requirements by incorporating risk assessments, QA insights, and corrective actions into ERP delivery.
User Training & Support
- Prepare technical and non‑technical documentation, workflows, and playbooks to ensure dealer understanding and adoption.
- Collaborate with training departments to deliver ERP training programs and provide ongoing support.
- Assist in resolving or remediating ERP issues, ensuring smooth dealer operations.
What You Will Have:
ERP & Systems Knowledge (MS Dynamics 365 Supply Chain focus)
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Supply Chain (or related SCM platforms) in a product or process leadership role.
- Understanding of Supply Chain configuration, security, and integrations with related systems.
- Awareness of Microsoft release cycles and ability to assess new features for business value.
- Knowledge of Supply Chain product lifecycle management, including adoption and change management.
Business Analysis:
- Strong understanding of supply chain operations: demand planning, procurement, inventory optimization, warehouse workflows, transportation, and order fulfillment.
- Ability to identify gaps in SCM processes and design system-driven solutions.
- Experience supporting KPIs such as order accuracy, lead time reduction, and inventory turnover.
Decision Making and Critical Thinking:
- Analytical skills to interpret supply chain data/performance metrics and identify opportunities for process improvement.
- Ability to support SCM leadership with actionable insights for cost optimization and operational agility.
- Familiarity with reporting tools (e.g., Power BI, Dynamics 365 dashboards) for supply chain performance.
Effective Communications:
- Ability to translate technical requirements into business-friendly terms.
- Skilled at facilitating workshops, demos, and discussions with supply chain, IT, and dealer stakeholders.
- Strong presentation and negotiation skills to align diverse stakeholders.
- Collaborative approach to building consensus and driving adoption across departments.
Software Problem Management:
- Documents resolution progress and provides feedback to customers.
- Describes issues and consideration for resolving problems involving other products or vendors.
- Works with tracking and resolving common types of problems, providing examples and follows proper notification and escalation procedures when needed.
Software Product Business Knowledge:
- Proven experience owning a product backlog, defining roadmaps, and managing releases.
- Skilled in writing clear user stories and acceptance criteria based on stakeholder input.
- Comfortable leading sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives with cross-functional teams.
- Ability to balance competing priorities and ensure alignment with business objectives.
Considerations For Top Candidates:
- Participates in UAT cycles, validating Supply Chain and Project Operations scenarios with Finance as supporting expertise
- Strong background in software product management and ERP lifecycle ownership
- Proven experience as Product Owner, Supply Chain Analyst, or Process Lead with end‑to‑end knowledge of demand planning, procurement, inventory, warehousing automation, and order fulfillment
- Familiarity with global dealer networks, manufacturing, and industrial supply chain best practices; Dealer/Rental industry exposure is a plus
- Hands‑on Agile/Scrum experience, driving backlog prioritization, sprint planning, and system enhancement delivery
- Demonstrated leadership in cross‑functional organizations, coordinating dependencies, risks, and product delivery across SCM, Project Ops, and Finance
- Skilled in reviewing, preparing, and maintaining high‑quality test scripts; executes functional, regression, integration, and performance testing with clear defect documentation
- Experienced in integration strategies (OData, REST APIs, DMF, Dual Write) and data migration for SCM and Project Ops
- Proficient in Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, and Dynamics dashboards for reporting and performance monitoring
- Passionate about continuous learning, leveraging automation, AI Builder, and Copilot Studio to enhance ERP processes and drive innovation
Experience :
- 8 – 10+ years in ERP/CRM solution delivery, including 6 + years hands‑on with Dynamics 365 F&O/AX.
- Hands-on experience in end-to-end D365 implementations (minimum 6 full-cycle projects).Experience with Agile/Scrum/SAFe methodologies, PI planning, and DevOps practices.
- Exposure to global rollouts, multi‑entity implementations, and regulatory compliance.
Certifications (Preferred)
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business Administration, Information Systems, or equivalent experience.
- MB‑310: Dynamics 365 F&O Solution Architect Expert
- MB‑320: Finance Functional Consultant Associate
- MB‑330: Supply Chain Management Functional Consultant Associate
