Summary of Job Duties:
Exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Fellow to play an important role in research to develop novel therapeutics for vascular and lymphatic-related diseases and mitigation of side effects of cancer therapy. The fellow will work under the general supervision of the Principal Investigator. The fellow is expected to help design and perform experiments, monitor project progress, and collect and summarize research data. The fellow will plan and execute routine molecular studies (like RNA and protein isolation, gene and protein expression studies, cell sorting, microscopy, flow cytometry, cell isolation), routine cell/tissue culture and adenoviral transfections, and vascular functional studies. The fellow will also perform surgical procedures the study the effects of pharmacological agents on lymph flow in vivo. The fellow is expected to participate in publishing research findings, to present research findings at scientific meetings, and to contribute to the preparation of grant proposals to funding agencies. The fellow also will help supervise and provide proper training (e.g. lab-skills, safety, etc.) for graduate students etc. The postdoctoral fellow must have a doctoral degree (PhD, MD/PhD, or MD), and a track record of productivity with peer-reviewed publications. Successful candidates will benefit from the stimulating research environment in the Stolarz laboratory and provided mentoring on scientific growth and career development. Salary for this position will be commensurate with experience, expertise and University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences guidelines.
Qualifications:
Required:
Doctoral degree in biomedical sciences, pharmacology, physiology, molecular biology or related field.
- An understanding of principles of biology, pharmacology, and physiology
- Proficient in handling laboratory animals and in performing surgical and non-surgical animal procedures
- Proficient in preparing and maintaining cell cultures, and in experimental methods commonly used in immunology, microbiology, and molecular biology (Western blot, PCR, flow cytometry, processing tissue for histopathology, adenoviral transfections, etc).
- Computer skills for word processing, data management, biostatistics, and scientific presentation
- Ability to perform literature research, simple statistical analyses, scientific presentation, and other tasks aimed at refining ongoing protocols, summarizing interim and final results, and developing new research protocols
preferred:
Experience in shRNA transfection, qPCR, capillary Western blot, fluorescence assays
Training in vascular and lymphatic functional research techniques (ie: microdissection, vessel perfusion, lymph flow imaging, calcium imaging)
