The Manager, User Experience Design is responsible for leading a team of user experience (UX) design professionals in project work and professional development. The UX team supports the broader Surescripts organization in product development informed by modern user-centered design techniques, with the goal of helping the organization articulate and achieve UX outcomes that result in measurable improvements in our users’ experience of the Surescripts network.
The Manager, User Experience Design will work closely with the Director, User Centered Innovation to operationalize and implement strategies to mature our growing UX practice across the three expertise areas of Discovery Research, Design (UI & Service), and Validation.
Surescripts is a multi-sided network, and a significant portion of the user experience is delivered through our customers’ interfaces. This necessitates a high degree of flexibility and adaptability in both process and output. This role must proactively support a diverse team tasked with rapid skill acquisition in evolving tools and techniques in an ever-changing technology landscape during a period of rapid change at Surescripts.
Mentor and lead the User Experience Design team to improve the overall competence and effectiveness of team members.
Manage the day-to-day priorities of the team and handle assignments and delineation of duties across the team.
Work with the Director, User-Centered Innovation to define processes, and create protocols, templates and standards that will support the UX department’s maturing research and design operation.
Facilitate the development of a deep understanding of our customers and end users, including their workflows and how they interact with the digital interfaces that support their work, including (but not limited to) electronic health records, pharmacy management systems, payer and PBM systems, and network management tools for yourself, the UX team, and the broader product organization.
Work closely with functional leaders and technical teams to develop strong relationships across the organization, acting as a subject matter expert (SME) and trusted advisor.
Partner with the Director, User-Centered Innovation and the UX team to mature our UX practice as the team grows.
Direct the work of UX designers and other product professionals when serving as a manager on complex projects as designated by the Director of User-Centered Innovation.
Bachelor’s degree in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) or related field, or one or more certifications/bootcamp graduation in User Experience Design from reputable organizations such as Nielsen Norman Group, Prime Academy, etc., or equivalent professional experience.
8+ years of experience in a professional User Experience role or related role.
5+ years of experience driving projects independently.
Training or experience with software development life cycle processes, including Agile development.
Master’s degree or higher with a focus in information architecture, human computer interaction, interaction design, product design, cognitive psychology, or related discipline.
Prior experience managing or leading teams
Change management experience
Experience using Aha! for product management
Experience with enterprise software and the medical or healthcare domain and/or working with multi-sided networks or marketplaces and/or API driven interfaces.
Exceptional facilitation skills, adept cross-functional collaboration, and persuasive interpersonal and written communication.
Accomplished at working both independently and collaboratively to achieve desired outcomes.
Willingness to rapidly acquire knowledge in new domains and/or skills with unfamiliar tools.
Eagerness to learn from engagements and team members.
Ongoing involvement in the UX community (e.g., meet ups, participation in professional organizations such as UXPA, conferences)
Experience with Rapid Iterative Testing & Evaluation (RITE) methodologies.
Conversant in WCAG 2.2 accessibility standards.
Ability to convey understanding of Human-Computer Interaction principles and common user-centered ideation, design, and validation methods through both formal and informal written and spoken communication.
