Job Description:

To provide physician leadership within Acute Pain Services that is in alignment with Intermountain
Health’s mission, vision and values. Will support processes and improve collaboration at the system and
at the facility levels to promote the highest level of teaming for quality care and outcomes.

Essential Functions

Quality Care:

  • Provide medical direction for all services associated with pain assessment, evaluation, and
  • management.
  • Assist facility in training of caregivers and providers where appropriate.
  • Assist with identifying best practices with the latest evidence and research.
  • Follow facility and system level procedures and processes.
  • Assist in the development of procedures where applicable.
  • Monitor outcomes related to patient care ensuring quality is continually improved upon.
  • Help to develop a culture of continuous improvement within the anesthesia department related
  • to pain management and other services provided at facility.
  • Assist facilities in continuous readiness with Joint Commission required Elements of Performance related to pain and pain services.
  • Attend system meetings where pain services planning, quality and service elements are
  • discussed.
  • Expand services to pre and post-operative areas to coordinate high risk patient treatment plans for the best outcomes.

Patient Experience:

  • Reviews patient experience survey data within service lines. Monitors and reports results to physicians.
  • Contributes to implementation of ideas to improve the patient experience across the continuum.

Physician Engagement:

  • Coordinate initiatives and communication with system Pain and Anesthesia Medical Directors.
  • Provides regular communication to caregivers on initiatives.
  • Partners with System Leaders and facility Medical Directors in resolving quality and/or behavioral issues.
  • Champion for safety across the peri-operative period.
  • Assist in developing and monitoring outcomes by service.
  • Supports Surgeon Leaders within the department of surgery and assists with professional development of department members.

Stewardship:

  • Contributes to strategic plan, includes equipment, services, etc.
  • Assists in achieving strategic sourcing initiatives.
  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills in a variety of methods for any identified needs.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders as needed to accomplish goals and objectives.

Caregiver Engagement:

  • Builds positive relationships between physicians and hospital personnel.
  • Builds positive relationship between employed and non-employed physicians.

Community Relations:

  • Represents Hospital as clinical expert. Takes opportunities to increase public awareness of services.
  • Collaborate with other facilities to share best practices in a continuous improvement framework.

Meeting Requirements on an as needed basis:

  • Meet regularly with Pain and Surgical Services leadership
  • System Clinical Operations meetings as identified
  • Other quality or safety meetings as identified
  • APS team collaboration meetings

Minimum Qualifications

  • MD or DO with ABMS or equivalent AOA Board Certification in a relevant specialty.
  • Active Medical Licensure
  • Minimum three years of clinical experience in relevant specialty and experience in leading successful quality improvement projects within the clinical setting.
  • Effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communications skills.

Physical Requirements

  • Interact with others requiring employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information.
  • Operate computers, telephones, office equipment, and manipulate paper requiring the ability to move fingers and hands.
  • See and read computer monitors and documents.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience. 

$7.25 - $999.99
