Job Description:
Parsons is looking for an amazingly talented Mechanical Field Engineer to join our team! In this role you will get to oversee and coordinate the installation, testing, and commissioning of mechanical systems for large-scale airport infrastructure projects.
This role requires technical expertise in mechanical systems, strong leadership and communication skills, and the ability to manage field operations effectively to ensure all mechanical systems meet project specifications, safety requirements, and deadlines.
Field Supervision and Leadership:
Lead and manage the mechanical field engineering team to ensure the proper execution of mechanical installation and construction work.
Provide technical guidance and support to site personnel, contractors, and subcontractors on mechanical systems and ensure that work is executed according to project specifications and industry standards.
Coordinate with the project management team and other engineering disciplines to ensure mechanical systems are installed and commissioned according to schedule.
Mechanical Systems Installation:
Oversee the installation of mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, fire protection systems, fuel systems, water supply and distribution, and other mechanical infrastructure in the airport environment.
Ensure that mechanical work complies with design specifications, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
Monitor installation schedules to ensure the mechanical systems are installed on time and meet quality standards.
Quality Control and Inspections:
Conduct regular inspections of mechanical installations to ensure quality control and compliance with engineering drawings, design specifications, and regulatory requirements.
Oversee testing and commissioning of mechanical systems, ensuring systems function as intended and meet performance criteria.
Monitor and resolve issues identified during site inspections, ensuring that work is corrected promptly and meets all project and safety standards.
Troubleshooting and Problem Solving:
Provide technical support and troubleshoot issues related to mechanical systems during installation, testing, and commissioning.
Identify, address, and resolve any mechanical issues that may arise during the construction phase to minimize delays and ensure project progress.
Work with design engineers to resolve discrepancies between design plans and site conditions.
Coordination and Communication:
Serve as the primary point of contact for all mechanical engineering issues on-site, coordinating with contractors, subcontractors, and internal teams.
Ensure effective communication between design teams, project managers, and construction teams to resolve mechanical issues quickly and efficiently.
Collaborate with other engineering disciplines, including structural and electrical teams, to ensure mechanical systems are integrated properly with other airport systems.
Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain accurate documentation of all mechanical field activities, including inspection reports, testing results, and site observations.
Provide regular progress reports on mechanical system installation, testing, and commissioning to the project manager.
Ensure that all mechanical documentation is up-to-date and readily available for auditing, compliance, and reporting purposes.
Safety Oversight:
Ensure that all mechanical work is performed in compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
Promote a safety-first approach on-site, enforcing safety protocols and conducting regular safety audits.
Monitor construction activities to ensure compliance with safety guidelines and correct any unsafe practices immediately.
Training and Development:
Mentor and guide junior engineers and site personnel on mechanical systems installation, commissioning, and safety practices.
Support the development of a high-performing mechanical field engineering team by providing leadership, training, and professional development opportunities.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. Advanced certifications or postgraduate qualifications in project management, HVAC, or mechanical systems is a plus.
Experience:
Minimum of 5-8 years of experience in mechanical engineering, with at least 3 years in a field engineering or construction management role on large infrastructure projects, ideally in airports or similar sectors.
Proven experience in the installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting of mechanical systems, including HVAC,
Skills & Knowledge:
In-depth knowledge of mechanical systems design, installation, testing, and commissioning processes.
Strong understanding of mechanical codes and standards (e.g., ASHRAE, NEC, NFPA) and airport-specific requirements.
Proficiency in reading and interpreting mechanical design drawings and specifications.
Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot mechanical issues on-site quickly and effectively.
Familiarity with construction management software, project management tools, and documentation systems.
Strong communication, leadership, and coordination skills to manage teams and work collaboratively across departments.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize workload in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Certification in Project Management (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2) is a plus.
Knowledge of airport-specific mechanical systems and operational needs.
Experience with advanced mechanical software tools such as Revit, AutoCAD, or mechanical simulation software.
Safety certifications (e.g., OSHA 30-hour, First Aid/CPR) are a plus.
