What you will do

The Manufacturing Engineer will support the sheet metal, fabrication, and welding technologies within the Gilbert, Arizona facility. The manufacturing Engineer will develop and plan the necessary processes relative to all new and existing production lines. They will lead the development and execution of the following: assembly line layout, capacity alignment to sales commitments, capital equipment planning and implementation, standard operating procedures, integration of design engineering/production operations all while ensuring the safest environment, highest quality, productivity targets. The Manufacturing Engineer coordinates and directs projects, project staff and sets goals, budgets, and timelines for active projects.

How you will do it

• Designing product assembly lines with Production Operations/Design/Mechanical engineering; ensuring all associated admin work is addressed in advance of the construction kick-off (IFC Stage-Gate); scheduling, capital equipment requirements, station setups (BOMs, fab parts, consumables), subassembly design and layout, plant layouts, rough cycle times, takt time calculations, preliminary line balancing (ongoing balance).

• Ensure safety is a priority with all workers and managers, oversee strict adherence to Alberta and Canadian Occupational Health and Safety guidelines, Arizona Occupational Health, and Safety Guidelines, attend JHSA meetings.

• Product Design DFMA, with priority of Safety (ie. devices, ergo, lifting plans...), followed by ease of manufacture for the product's parts and the simplified assembly of those parts into the final product

• Liaison between engineering and production on all projects; transfer of knowledge and acting as a bridge between engineering department, Program Managers, production operations, ensuring all around effective communication.

• Construction kick-off & Manufacturing Playbook Population: ensuring all items on the kick off agenda are addressed well before the kick-off is slated to happen, safety, schedule creation, personal drawing review, drawings are distributed to appropriate production personnel for review. Manufacturing Playbook is in a common location for all functions to easily access and reference. Regular maintenance of Manufacturing Playbook as changes are made to line design, team roster, and program intent.

  • Adhere to Standard Line Layout & MERP policy and procedures, estimating build hours.

• Authors Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) on assigned program/building to ensure the final produced product meets engineering requirements and specifications. SOPs are authored using template provided and released based on priority from production operations. Revisions to SOPs are made as needed to ensure the utmost quality output of production.

•Manage and own ECR process between engineering and production, review and sign off on all ECRs. Ensure adherence to the documented ECR process.

• Work with the QC department on the implementation of standard work, aiding QC in a support role to closeout CARs and implement long-term and sustainable fixes to prevent re-occurrence.

• Partnering with the CI Team (continuous improvement) as an engineering presence; product research, construction drawing coordination, ROIs, etc. Support in following activities of: Kaizens, VSMs (Value Stream Mapping), & VAVE (Value Analysis & Value Engineering).

• Working with production and planning in gathering important project information; especially relating to time study projects/gathering information for successive scheduling tasks, as projects enter main production stream.

• Perform administrative functions such as reviewing and drafting reports, enforcing policies and procedures, and making proposals about the purchase of materials or services needed for production success.

• Ensures projects are manufactured per, Request for Proposal (RFP) from customer, engineering specifications and contracting procedures.

• In collaboration with line supervisors, oversee and provide support of the training/development and maintenance of staff competencies.

• Making Decisions and Solving Problems -- Analyzing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems.

• Monitors progress against project schedules; recommends allocation of resources as required to accomplish goals.

• Reviews QC inspection reports and assists in resolution of field & factory construction problems.

• Provides technical oversight and coordination of design/mechanical engineering work, through project management meetings and other means.

• Communicating with relevant stakeholders, red-lining engineering drawings, and/or in person.

• Perform other duties relative to the support of production operations as necessary.

• Works with leadership to determine priorities and escalates priority conflicts when they arise.  

Wat we look for:

• Engineering Degree: Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing

• 3+ years of Manufacturing Engineering experience preferred.

• Experience with sheet metal, fabrication, and welding technologies

• 3+ years’ experience in an Engineering Department with direct responsibility for the design and/or construction portion of the department.

• Demonstrated understanding of engineering theories and principles.

• Able to communicate ideas and recommendations to non-engineer team members in a clear manner.

• Demonstrated knowledge of Canadian/US Engineering standards.

• Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing with peers and immediate supervisor

• Beginning to Intermediate problem identification and problem resolution skills.

• Able to apply the right mathematical methods and formulas to problem solving.

• Able to create alternative solutions to problems.

• Proven time management and project management skills.

• High level of sound and independent judgment and reasoning.

• Ability to interpret and implement company policies and procedures.

• Demonstrated ability to exercise necessary cost control measures.
