Position Title: Deputy Chief Financial Officer

Employment Type: Permanent Full Time

Hours per week: 40 hrs hours per week

Position Grade: HSM Level 6

Salary: $176,401 to $192,662 Base per annum + Super + Salary Packaging

About the role:

The Deputy CFO plays a key role in supporting the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) in establishing and maintaining all financial functions of the organisation including St Vincent’s Health Network Sydney, Trustees of St Vincent’s Hospital Sydney and the St Vincent’s Curran Foundation, and in building and managing the appropriate systems, structures and processes to ensure strong financial governance and working toward SVHNS’s objectives for financial sustainability.

The Deputy CFO is responsible for managing the staff establishment and budgeting process of the organisation and working closely with Cost Centre Managers to build financial capability and a strong working relationship between the finance function and business operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build and invest in relationships with SVHNS Managers, Stream Managers and Executive to foster a partnership approach and ensure strong alignment between business operations and the finance function.

  • Develop, implement and oversee a collaborative and robust budgeting and forecast process to achieve SVHNS’s financial objectives.

  • Oversee necessary reporting compliances to external organisations, including annual financial statements.

  • Develop appropriate systems and structures to ensure the provision of robust and relevant financial advice, support and regular financial reporting to SVHNS staff to improve their decision making, collaboration, communication, and financial performance

  • Support and contribute to capability building for SVHNS Managers in financial analysis and management to enhance financial discipline and sustainability

  • Lead the Financial Services team, providing guidance, mentorship, developing and implementing training programs and managing the team for optimal performance.

  • Foster a collaborative and high-performance culture, promote professional development, and ensure the team's alignment with organisational goals.

  • Support the Chief Financial Officer to ensure high standards of financial governance are achieved.

  • Support the Chief Financial Officer to ensure optimal structures and processes are in place for achievement of financial improvement initiatives and maintain a commitment to continuous improvement and innovation to support financial sustainability.

Selection Criteria:

  • Personal integrity and demonstrated commitment to the Philosophy, Mission and Values of Mary Aikenhead Ministries and St Vincent’s Health Australia.

  • Postgraduate qualifications in Accounting or Business Administration will be held in high regard coupled with prior experience in a Senior finance role, preferably in a health setting.

  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships and work collaboratively with a range of stakeholders to drive business objectives.

  • Highly developed analytical skills and an ability to translate analytical insights into clear and concise information.

  • Demonstrated technical expertise across financial and performance management and the full range of management functions including Budgeting, reporting, probity and staff education.

  • A demonstrated track record in managing a team for optimal performance while exhibiting a high level of professionalism and personal integrity.

  • Highly developed writing skills as well as experience in researching, developing, reviewing and advising on relevant internal and external practices in accordance with SVHNS priorities and whole of government requirements.

  • Demonstrated achievement in delivering business outcomes including a proven ability to achieve results and to use initiative and sound personal judgement in accordance with current SVHNS work practices.
