The Role: Data Engineer

The Impact: This role is essential for the Markit Intelligence Group of S&P as it ensures the development of new software solutions and continuous improvement and stability of our existing applications. Role will enable our clients with a seamless user experience and access to up-to-date data, ultimately bolstering their confidence in our services and reinforcing our competitive position in the market.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, construct, test, and maintain data architectures, including databases and large-scale processing systems, ensuring high levels of data availability and quality.
  • Collaborate with the team to implement complex data projects, offering expertise in data storage structures.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to gather and translate business requirements into technical specifications and effective data solutions.
  • Apply best practices in data management and governance, ensuring compliance with data privacy and security policies.
  • Identify, design, and implement process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability.

What We’re Looking For:

  • 3 to 5 years of extensive database experience: Demonstrated experience in database design, optimization, and maintenance with a focus on performance and scalability.
  • Expertise in SQL Server/PostgreSQL: Proficiency in advanced SQL techniques, query optimization, and experience with complex database systems.
  • Proficiency in Python, Airflow, AWS: In addition to the mentioned technologies, proficiency in a broader range of data technologies such as Spark, Kafka, or others relevant to senior roles.
  • Experience in both Windows and Linux environments: Comfortable working across diverse technology stacks and adaptable to different operating systems.
  • Code quality and architectural improvements: Drive ongoing enhancements in code quality, best practices, and architectural decisions to ensure a robust and scalable data infrastructure.
  • Effective teamwork and Agile experience: Proven success in Agile development environments, exhibiting strong communication skills, both written and verbal, while mentoring fellow engineers and contributing to product direction.
  • Mentoring and Leadership: Mentor junior team members, provide guidance, and contribute to the future direction of our data engineering efforts.

Additional Skills (Preferred):

  • Containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Big Data technologies like Apache Spark or Hadoop ecosystem.
  • Familiarity with data warehousing solutions like Redshift or Snowflake.
