Varec, a Leidos company is currently searching for a Senior Systems Engineer. The Senior Systems Engineer will be a key position for the Varec EPoS program, supporting the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA). The EPoS (Electronic Point-of-Sale) and support services adds to the work Varec already does for DLA, and the EPoS system supports both manned and unmanned service stations, ensuring real time data is captured to provide a fully automated enterprise fuels management system. 

The preference is for this individual to be local in the Peachtree Corners, GA area (Company HQ) and able to come onsite, 1-2 days per week. Will consider full remote/telework candidates, based on experience. This individual must be able to occasionally travel to a government site.

The Senior Systems Engineer leads engineering and requirements, providing support of the design, execution, sustainment, and oversight of IT projects including direct experience in the design, development and sustainment of integrated software and hardware solutions in the private or public sector. 

The Challenge:

  • Collaboratively work with the DoD customer and internal stakeholders to design, execution, and drive engineering/IT projects.
  • Document requirements with sufficient technical breadth and superior communication to solve business related problems or implement new solutions with DoD DLA.
  • Gather system requirements and decompose customer requirements to make recommendations for upgrades or improvements that can be accomplished through new technology or alternative uses of existing technology or software. 
  • Champion software development reviews, testing, and patch development and release with subcontractor.
  • Manage release management, change management and version control.
  • Maintain and makes improvements on the Amazon Web Service test instance and web services.
  • Gain working knowledge of Enterprise mobile application utilized with the pedestals.
  • Interpret cellular IoT studies for sites and troubleshoot connection or transmission issues. 
  • Read Tenable and ACAS security scan results and review with the cybersecurity team and work with software development subcontractor to resolve vulnerabilities.
  • Lead team systems engineering efforts for the program autonomously.
  • Develop Linux (Ubuntu) scripts for sustainment and evaluation of pedestal logs.
  • Troubleshoot and assess enterprise integration issues to include F5 load balancing and enterprise database, web interface code, cellular IoT data transmission and encryption.
  • Lead a small team of engineers to accomplish tasks associated with software release planning and management, software testing, cyber security analysis and planning.
  • Build a collaborative relationship with DLA customer and stakeholders
  • Recommend improvements or evaluate technical components during sustainment phase of pedestal equipment.
  • Manage and maintain AWS cloud/test environments and/or virtual machines (VM)
  • Act as subject matter expert of integrating Linux solutions into Microsoft Active Directory domain
  • Collaboratively work with cybersecurity teams to work cybersecurity requirements for DoD including POAMs, plans, and ATO needs (NIST 800.4, RMF, FIPS 140.2 and 140.3).
  • Update ServiceNow ticketing system to update trouble tickets as needed during root cause analysis.
  • Create technical whitepapers on recommendations and/or summary of findings/root cause analysis for technical known issues discovered in the field.
  • Creates system design documentation to encompass all technical aspects regarding the design of a new system or completing an upgrade of one that currently exists, including design constraints and future contingencies.
  • Verifies system integration to include test script verification of security patches for the Fixed system.
  • Ability to troubleshoot modems and antenna impacts on cellular data transmission, interference, propagation, collision, etc.
  • Develops parsing for audit, Alarm and Alert logs to troubleshoot abnormalities in the system deployed. Collaborates with external vendors to assess, analyze and troubleshoot external interface, design and integration.

What Sets You Apart (Basic Requirements):

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field with eight plus (8+) years of relevant experience working in systems engineering or application development. May consider more years of relevant experience in lieu of degree
  • Current Linux Essentials certification required.
  • Currently hold or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire one of the following certifications: Security+, CCNA-Security, CND, Network+CE, CAP, Cloud+ or SSCP
  • U.S Citizenship required with DoD Information Technology Access Level (IT-1) or the ability to obtain.
  • Must possess strong organizational skills and possess excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Must be self-motivated, proactive, and capable of independently planning and prioritizing work.
  • Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications: (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)
  • Experience with the design, execution, and oversight of IT projects.
  • Business or requirements analyst background with sufficient technical breadth and superior communication and collaboration skills to successfully work with key stakeholders to solve business related problems or implement new solutions.

You Might Also Have (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Prior military or commercial fuels management industry experience
  • Experience with Windows workstation and server operating systems and SQL Server 2016 or higher.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $101,400.00 - $183,300.00
