Your role will be focused on delivering high quality electric drivetrain components and systems used across the full Cat machine product line. The primary responsibility of this position is to conduct electromagnetic analysis of motor / generator designs, modelling and design of electric machines for advanced traction motors and generators to achieve performance requirements. The position will collaborate with a global team to solve technical problems and deliver on project goals, continually learn to stay abreast of innovative technology, and mentor team members.  This role directly impacts Caterpillar current and future electrified powertrain products. The position is within Caterpillar’s Electrification +Energy Solutionsrce (E+ES) division focused on delivering high quality electric drive for the organization.


Roles and Responsibilities
•    Perform motor electromagnetic simulations along with design optimization
•    Perform sizing and trade-off study of motor system and thermal management system, through accurate modelling and simulation
•    Conversant with different types motors Technology like PMSM, Induction, Switch Reluctance & Synchronous Reluctance for EV & HEV applications
•    Work on Motor Control Algorithms and strategies for Better Performance.
•    Create Workflows for Automation of Electromagnetic simulations 
•    Develop, verify, and optimize design process to predict and optimize electric machine performance through improved materials, modelling methods, and design algorithms.
•    Work along with thermal team for different cooling system methodologies for traction application.
•    Support structural and mechanical analysis of motor systems including NVH and durability
•    Testing & validation of electric machines as per relevant standards.
•    Keep track of global trends in relevant technology, regulations and develop long term road maps and appropriate work plan to Benchmark industry standard
•    Study, invent, and implement new electric machine technology
•    Support NPI, NTI, CPI, and Cost Reduction programs to meet quality and performance targets
•    Drive knowledge management including developing standard work and automating processes
•    Ongoing professional development including seminars, training, and courses as needed
•    Keeps abreast of current technology trends, supports the electric drive systems technical roadmap, and strategic initiatives.
•    Experience with world-class simulation platforms and modelling best practices (managing libraries, version control, flexible modelling techniques, etc)
•    Detail-oriented work standards and ability to abstract and present meaningful results

Required Qualification:

•    Master Degree ( 3 + Yrs.) or PhD (1 + Yrs.) in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline 
•    Electromagnetic analysis experience with good working knowledge of CAE tools, such as Maxwell, JMAG, and analytical tools like SPEED and Motor CAD
•    Sound knowledgeable in electric vehicle architecture and modelling process
•    Experience in the design and analysis of high torque & power density IPM/PM, switched reluctance motors and induction motors
•    Strong understanding of validating motor electromagnetic and thermal designs including performance
•    Experience using MATLAB/Simulink for data Analysis/Modelling
•    Experience in Scripting with Python and Matlab for Simulation Process Automation and Data reduction. 
•    Knowledge in power electronics hardware and motor control algorithms
•    Domain Knowledge of PMSM, BLDC, IM, SR, Sync Reluctance Motor/Generator design & development along with manufacturing Strong communication skills, written and oral
•    Work experience in an Engineering field, preferably with Electric Drive traction and control systems in automotive, rail or heavy machinery applications.

Desired Qualification:

1.    Ph.D / M.Tech / B.Tech in Electrical / Mechanical Engineering or the equivalent in experience with evidence of exceptional ability
2.    Previous working experience in EV / HEV OEMs or EVSE tier 1 suppliers
3.    Understanding of engineering theory and principles of automotive energy storage systems 
4.    Strong working knowledge of product safety and quality principles.
5.    Experience in DFMEA and DVP&R for EV / HEV powertrain
6.    Enthusiastic to explore and develop new technology leveraging publication and journals.
