The future of Health Savings Accounts (HSA’s) is bright, and you’ll play a role in contributing to our mission of innovating our business and creating an unparalleled customer experience. This position reports to the Director of Systems Engineering.

 

You will join a team responsible for the evolution and support of the platforms that power HSA Bank’s business applications and internal/external integrations. Your tech savviness and experience designing and architecting systems will be needed in this role. Junior peers will look up to you for coaching and guidance as they work through assignments and issues. Your proactive communication and technical contributions managing system/server configurations and maintenance are instrumental to the availability and integrity of our cloud hosted operating environments. A strong aptitude and willingness to continuously progress your skills, advance our systems, troubleshoot issues, solve problems, and participate in our after-hours on-call rotation with your peers will help you learn, grow, and build trust.

Job Responsibilities

Operational Excellence

  • Complete projects and/or tasks of medium-to-high level complexity across HSA Bank platforms including environment management, operating system and server upgrades/patches, app config settings, certificate management, maintaining service accounts, SQL connections, load balancers, inner-system connectivity, network communications.
  • Administer and support 3rd party systems/vendor applications and ensure they stay compliant with risk and security policies. Includes user management, maintenance (software upgrades/patching), documentation, and support.
  • Manage setup, maintenance, and support of internal and external integrations (i.e. API, SSO, etc.).  Ensure performance and compliance meets internal and external service level agreements.
  • Collaborate with HSA Security to proactively monitor security scorecard and understand vulnerabilities within your domain area(s). Create remediation plan and be accountable for completing remediation tasks within SLA’s.
  • Leverage cloud, observability, and logging tools to monitor systems to proactively resolve issues. Independently identify and act on opportunities to optimize system availability and performance. Ensure system performance meets SLA’s.
  • Lead concurrent projects with minimal direction from manager and peers. Includes planning of work for self and peers, execution of all project tasks, and validation of work quality by peers. Oversee day-to-day tactical execution of core tasks that run the business. Streamline operational efficiency through automation of manual tasks or new solutions.
  • Ensure self and peers work within the regulatory requirements, internal policies, security best practices, change management policies, and banking industry standards. Ensure compliance and participate in related projects and/or activities as assigned.

Platform Support – 24x7

  • Our business runs 24x7, so you will need to be available for after-hours support as part of the teams on-call rotation to ensure adequate coverage and timely response and resolution to Critical and High severity incidents. Utilize and improve knowledge base. Proactively communicate across teams to troubleshoot root cause. Act with urgency to resolve incidents.
  • Act independently to review, prioritize, and assign incidents to self and peers from the team’s support queue during business hours. Ensure acknowledgement, response, and resolution are managed within internal and external service levels.
  • Solve difficult problems within a narrower scope of accountability.

Partnership and Communication

  • Develop relationships and trust by communicating effectively and keeping commitments with all IT/LOB functions. Plan the work and work the plan for self and advise peers, as needed. Proactively communicate progress to keep stakeholders and team informed from beginning to end.
  • Partner with other IT teams to meet each other’s needs and dependencies, adhering to IT policies and SLA’s. Utilize independent decision making to manage unplanned events, balance competing priorities, and manage stakeholder expectations. When win-win outcomes aren’t apparent, know when to ask for help/escalate to manager.
  • Work closely with software engineering teams to understand platform and environment requirements needed to support new applications or enhancements.
  • Offer consistent peer mentorship and guidance to peers responsible for configuration management, maintenance, security, and support of HSA Bank’s enterprise technologies, integrations, and web services.

Continuous Improvement and Professional Development

  • Proactively engage manager, peers, and SME’s to continuously progress self and others knowledge of HSA Bank systems and processes. Ask questions and share suggestions about the systems you work on that may lead to operational efficiencies. Operate effectively as the ‘Primary’ resource for assigned systems and technical competencies.
  • Continuously look for and seize opportunities to advance your skills and experience. Engage your manager and peers frequently and ask for/utilize feedback. Have a personal drive to study and strive for related professional certifications, with a key interest in cloud computing platforms.

Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, or equivalent work experience in an IT-related field required.
  • 4+ years of experience working in infrastructure and operations roles along with an advanced understanding of Systems Operations or Cloud Operations best practices. Experience in the financial services or healthcare industry is a plus.
  • Moderate to Advanced understanding of systems written using Microsoft application stack technologies and how to support them. Experience supporting Microsoft systems deployed to AWS is a plus.
  • Moderate to Advanced understanding of SDLC concepts, file and app server setup/configurations, DB concepts, SQL, Windows Server.
  • Moderate to Advanced understanding of network and security concepts and foundational knowledge of PKI, firewall ACLs, and security patch management is required.
  • Moderate understanding of Infrastructure as Code concepts (IaS). Experience with deploying and managing systems utilizing Terraform is a plus.
  • Moderate to Advanced understanding of integration services (Rest APIs, SAML SSO, etc.). Experience with web service testing tooling (Swagger, Postman, etc.) is a plus.  
  • Ideal candidate will be proficient with SQL queries and scripting. 
  • Moderate understanding of monitoring systems, ticketing systems, change management process, technical documentation, using scripting to perform automated actions. PowerShell scripting should be in your toolkit.
  • Moderate understanding and experience resolving compliance risks or working within compliance frameworks is desired.
  • Demonstrated experience utilizing and advancing Agile methodologies and tools (Jira, Confluence, etc.).
  • Ideal candidate will be action-oriented, accountable, decisive, resilient/adaptable to change, and able to articulate thoughts.
  • Holding accredited technical certification in areas of networking, server, public cloud, database, or security is a plus.

The estimated salary range for this position is $100,000.00 to $120,000.00. Actual salary may vary up or down depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position is eligible for incentive compensation.
