The Role: Regional People Expert, Malaysia
The Location: Penang/Kuala Lumpur
The Team: You will join a best-in-class team of HR professionals, who work collegially and professionally across the APAC region to collaborate and exchange domain knowledge and expertise in the field of Human Resources to provide the highest level of people experience and business support.
The Impact: The APAC Regional team is a dynamic team responsible for the local implementation and operation of our global People programs, practices, and procedures with a focus on talent attraction, retention, development, and engagement. The role works closely with other teams to support and manage people relations, performance management, retention, regulatory reporting, compliance/risk management and organizational development.
What’s in it for you: The role spans across functions within the organization and provides opportunity to work in a highly matrix environment. As a Regional People Expert, you will work and collaborate with People team members across geographies. The successful candidate will own the implementation of People priorities. You will be a key proponent of regional insights for People policy and program development and execution, facilitate leadership development efforts, and provide local clients with HR consultancy and solutions across many areas including succession planning, change management, colleague engagement, compliance and more. This role provides advice and counsel to our colleagues and People Leaders regarding People matters. The position is responsible for partnering on talent development, rewards & recognition, performance management and compensation to ensure that People initiatives support the business strategy and attainment of business goals.
Responsibilities:
Partner closely with people leaders, colleagues, Divisional People Partners, Regional People Experts and senior business leaders across S&P Global divisions in Malaysia for an approximate colleague base of 700 spread across our two offices in Kuala Lumpur & Penang.
Provide people support to our office in Indonesia, comprising fewer than 10 colleagues, with the purpose of ensuring that their needs are effectively met.
Lead people first mindset, working with divisional strategies to execute people aspect of business initiatives.
Contribute to developing, socializing, and implementing enterprise-wide People programs that meet current needs while also anticipating future business and talent trends.
Partner closely with other People teams such as divisional people partners, people relations, compensation, benefits, global mobility, talent development and legal to provide sound guidance to the business, people leaders and our colleagues.
Advise people leaders on performance management, people relations, appropriately evaluating risk and providing expertise in compliance with local laws.
Proactively provide regional insights & advise relevant stakeholders regarding People policy and program matters, making or recommending appropriate decisions in alignment with the overall strategic direction of the Company.
Provide regional guidance and perspective on promotions, salary and workforce planning; assist with execution of these activities.
Comprehensive understanding of applicable local labor regulations and use the same as a basis in assessing risk/guidance. Stay abreast of new regulations to drive compliance requirements.
Champion and educate on new People programs and initiatives within remit including DEI, learning and development, engagement, rewards and talent.
Stay abreast of changes and developments to employment laws and other legislations and government activity that may impact the operation in Malaysia.
Partner closely with the site leadership team and manage any site nuisances or local statutory initiatives such as HRDC (Human Resources Development Center).
What We’re Looking For:
A decade plus of increasingly responsible business partner experience including consulting with leadership in the development and execution of human resources strategies and practices including talent strategy, learning and development, performance management, people relations and organizational effectiveness/team development.
Ability to build strong partnerships and exert influence at all levels within the organization through industry expertise and excellence in all aspects of communication and leadership.
Skill in navigating people relations matters and experience in conducting workplace investigations.
Experience of supporting organizations with globally diverse cultures and geographically dispersed colleague bases
Strong proactive problem-solving and decision-making skills.
Collaborate with People Partners both in regions and divisions and pick up support in other areas of the region/business as needed. Ability to remain agile and flexible in a matrixed people partnership model.
Proven experience as a successful coach to leaders and colleagues related to workplace challenges, change management efforts, managing low performance etc.
Strong understanding of HR processes and ability to achieve impact and influence through quality information, access, and awareness.
Data analysis and interpretation skills.
Ability to handle highly confidential information appropriately, exercise discretion as appropriate, and remain sensitive to individual situations.
Must be flexible in work hours and amenable to attend evening calls.
Occasional travel between the two offices in Malaysia may be required.
