Job Summary
Responsible for managing and directing biostatistics, health informatics and support staff within the Corewell Health Research Institute (CHRI) to support investigators, staff, and trainees.
Primary responsibilities include: a) developing and maintaining a staff that meets the needs of the institute; b) prioritizing staff effort based on established criteria such as project impact, extramural support and training requirements; c) establishing a culture that promotes client services, applications for extramural support and staff success; d) providing information regarding available services to investigators and trainees; and e) serving as a senior leader in data extraction and analytics.
Essential Functions
- Directly supervises a team of biostatisticians, data engineers, and data scientists diverse in experience level, professional background, biomedical domain knowledge, and working styles.
- Sets standards and establishes best practices for project and data management, analysis plans, methods development, and application of state-of-the-art statistical methods to conduct analyses
- Serves as a domain expert in data analytics and data extraction as well as a consultant and senior member of multidisciplinary teams that include clinicians and biomedical researchers; participation in extramurally funded research, collaborating investigator or consultant.
- Develops training, education, and professional development plans for multiple levels of biostatistics and data extraction staff.
- Leads communication of research methods, implementation, and results to varied audience of clinicians, scientists, analysts, and programmers.
- Tracks project activities for reporting and billing purposes for self and entire team, and forecasts future needs of the department.
- Builds collaborations with departments and units across Corewell Health, including building the visibility of support beyond the Corewell Health Research Institute (CHRI).
- Contributes to Graduate Medical Education by participating in resident and fellow research projects and providing data analytics education to residents and fellows.
- Serves as a domain expert beyond research for other units at Corewell Health, including serving on committees.
Qualifications
Required
- Master's Degree in statistics, biostatistics, or related discipline.
- At least 7 years of relevant experience of collaborative statistical research, including success in supporting applications for external funding.
- At least 3 years of relevant experience managing staff.
- At least 10 years of relevant experience in using one or more statistical programming language (e.g., SAS, R), preferably applying common statistical methods to medical and clinical research.
