- Hours: Monday- 5am-1:30pm Tuesday-Friday 6am-2:30pm; Rotating Weekends; NO Holidays
A Brief Overview:
The Histology Technician will be responsible for preparing tissue specimens for microscopic examination by pathologists. You will play a vital role in the accurate diagnosis of diseases by ensuring the quality and integrity of tissue samples and slides. Your attention to detail and proficiency in histological techniques will be critical in providing excellent patient care.
What you will do:
- Conducting tissue specimen processing to incudes: receiving, accessioning, and preparing tissue specimens for histological examination, as well as embedding, sectioning, staining, and mounting on slides.
- Ensuring the accuracy and reliability of histological slides by adhering to strict quality control measures and protocols.
- Operating and maintain laboratory equipment, including microscopes and tissue processors. Examine slides to identify tissue abnormalities and cellular structures.
- Preforming various staining techniques, such as hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) staining, immunohistochemistry, and special stains, to enhance tissue visibility and aid in diagnosis.
- Documentation: Maintain detailed records of specimen processing, staining procedures, and quality control data. Document any discrepancies and take corrective actions as needed.
- Monitoring and restocking of laboratory supplies and reagents to ensure continuous workflow.
- Following safety protocols, including handling hazardous chemicals and biological materials, and maintain a clean and safe working environment.
- Collaborating with pathologists, laboratory staff, and healthcare providers to discuss findings, assist in diagnosis, and ensure timely reporting of results.
What you will need:
- The knowledge normally gained in two to three years of education/training after high school
- Six to twelve months of previous experience under the supervision of a pathologist
- Certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, preferred
