Summary:
In this role, you will lead multiple software and quality engineering teams responsible for developing and operating robust internal and external operational and transactional systems that support Vizient’s core business capabilities and client-facing products. You will contribute to product and engineering strategy, drive architectural excellence, and ensure alignment between technical execution and business objectives. You will inspire high-performing teams, foster a culture of collaboration and accountability, and champion modern engineering practices that improve the reliability, scalability, security, and maintainability of Vizient’s technology platforms.
Responsibilities:
- Manage, inspire, and develop high-performing software and quality engineering teams, fostering a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Partner closely with product management, technical leads, engineers, and executive leadership to align engineering execution with strategic business objectives.
- Evaluate tools and technologies, make informed architectural decisions, and guide technical direction across multiple operational and transactional applications.
- Mentor engineering managers, engineers, and technical leads while supporting career development and hiring efforts to attract and retain top engineering talent.
- Oversee engineering budgets, resource allocation, and capacity planning to ensure efficient and sustainable delivery.
- Champion strong engineering practices, agile methodologies, and effective use of Azure DevOps (ADO) for backlog management, delivery tracking, and operational visibility.
- Collaborate with product management, security, cloud operations, and architecture teams to deliver secure, scalable, and highly available systems.
- Drive continuous improvement in engineering processes, system performance, and platform reliability through adoption of modern technologies and best practices.
- Build alignment across teams and departments to promote transparency, accountability, and shared ownership of outcomes.
- Ensure engineering deliverables meet established standards for reliability, maintainability, performance, and scalability, including ownership of incident management, on-call practices, and service-level objectives (SLOs).
- Support initiatives focused on modernizing, stabilizing, and scaling Vizient’s core technology platforms.
- Represent engineering priorities, risks, and progress to executive leadership and key stakeholders.
Qualifications:
- Relevant degree preferred in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
- 7 or more years of progressive experience in software engineering, including leadership of software and quality engineering teams required.
- Proven experience leading teams responsible for building and operating client-facing, operational, or transactional systems in production environments required.
- Strong technical foundation with experience in modern software development, distributed systems, and cloud-based architectures required.
- Proficiency with Azure DevOps (ADO) for backlog management, delivery tracking, and operational visibility required.
- Experience with modern application and platform technologies such as Java, Kotlin, Angular, relational databases (e.g., Azure SQL / SQL Server), cloud-native services, and event- or API-driven architectures, or comparable technologies highly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience managing engineering budgets, resource allocation, and talent development highly preferred.
- Experience working in healthcare, regulated industries, or large-scale enterprise environments preferred.
- Experience applying agile methodologies and engineering best practices in complex, high-availability environments.
- Proven ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences, including executive leadership.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to evaluate, adopt, and scale appropriate tools and technologies.
Estimated Hiring Range:
At Vizient, we consider skills, experience, and organizational needs in our compensation approach. Geographic factors may adjust the range estimate and hires typically fall below the top range. Compensation decisions are tailored to individual circumstances. The current salary range for this role is $135,200.00 to $236,600.00.
