Job Summary

CHOC's Infection Prevention team works with all areas of the health system (inpatient, outpatient/ambulatory, ER, etc.) to implement strategies aimed at the prevention and control of the transmission of infectious agents.

The Infection Preventionist conducts organization-wide surveillance, reporting of communicable diseases to public health, monitors environment for infection prevention and control risks, and provides educational/in-service activities that support the organization-wide infection control program, including inpatient and ambulatory.

Pay Range

Minimum $102,770 Midpoint $136,186 Maximum $169,580

Rate of pay is determined by various factors, including but not limited to knowledge, skills, competencies, experience, education, as well as position requirements.

Experience

* Required: Minimum three (3) years of experience in an acute care setting.

* Preferred: Five (5) years of experience in infection control & epidemiology.

Education

* Required: Bachelor’s degree in nursing, lab/health science, public health or related health field. If RN CIC, then BSN required within three years of hire.

Training

* Required: Knowledge of Joint Commission, CDC, CAL OSHA, CDPH standards for infection prevention and control.

Specialized Skills

* Required: Project management skills. Knowledge of CDC-NHSN definitions, software and data analysis. Ability to set goals and judge results in accordance with the highest standards; care with sensitivity and respect; advance care through development of new ideas and technology; promote teamwork to achieve CHOC’s mission; and understand and exceed customer expectations. Strong organization and prioritizing skills; strong verbal and written communications; strong problem solving and critical thinking skills, and strong computer skills.

Licensure

* Required: Certified in Infection Prevention and Control (CIC) within two years of hire.

Work Environments - Functional Demand:

Sedentary - Very light energy level Lift 10 lbs. box overhead. Lift and carry 15 lbs. Push/pull 20 lbs. cart.
