The Invasive Cardiac Technician III, will assist physicians in the interpretation of special and complex invasive imaging procedures and performs minor maintenance and quality assurance of equipment and devices in the laboratory.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs all duties of the CVT II with proficiencies in areas of clinical and technical expertise.
  • Functions as a clinical and technical resource to assist physicians in the interpretation of special and complex imaging procedures and perform minor maintenance and quality assurance of equipment and devices in the lab.
  • Under physician direction, performs x-ray contrast injections, stabilizes guide wires, catheters and devices during diagnostic, interventions and biopsy procedures.
  • Utilizes aseptic and sterile techniques to assist physicians during the procedure.
  • Sets up, prepares, operates and troubleshoots intra aortic balloon pumps and other complex devices.
  • Provides equipment and supplies to those scrubbing or circulating within the room.
  • Maintains awareness of new equipment and physician preferences of equipment and supplies.
  • Assists in collection of all specimens, including arterial/venous blood specimens, as well as point of care specimens.
  • Successfully removes arterial and venous sheaths based on unit standards.
  • Assists in Regulatory and safety monitoring and compliance audits as directed.
  • Maintains level of expertise through an ongoing education process and shares knowledge obtained with lab personnel.
  • Demonstrates effective leadership skills while interacting with cath lab personnel.
  • Supports departmental goals by facilitating change and providing feedback or constructive criticism to management.
  • Assumes cath lab charge duties, if needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Graduate of an accredited Radiological, Invasive Cardiovascular or Respiratory Care Program preferred.

Certifications:

  • Registration as a Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) as determined by Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) preferred.
  • Graduates of an accredited Radiological, Invasive Cardiovascular or Respiratory Care Program must maintain current state registration/certification as a Radiologic Technician or Respiratory Technician.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider certification required.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required within 1 year.

Complexity of Work:

  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
  • Ability to work within a team environment with individuals of varying abilities and responsibilities.
  • Must be able to interact with physicians during emergencies.
  • Able to handle emergency/stressful situations and have good communication skills.

Work Experience:

  • Minimum of three years cardiac cath lab experience and/or experience in a critical care setting.

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full range of body motion, including handling and lifting of patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye/hand coordination.
  • Requires normal or corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
  • Requires some exposure to x-rays; may require working with some exposure to communicable diseases or body fluids.
  • Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.
  • Occasionally required to lift and carry items weighing up to 75 pounds.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
