Overview
In 1971, Yale University established Yale Health to provide health services to its facility, staff and students through a multidisciplinary health maintenance organization located on campus. Yale Health has more than 50,000 members including students, staff, faculty and their families who come from every state in the country and almost every country in the world. With over 50 years of service to the Yale community, our state-of-the-art facility at 55 Lock Street, is where our members receive most of their care from our 150+ providers. It is a 144,000 square foot medical facility with over 90 exam rooms, an Acute Care Department, a 15-bed inpatient facility with two negative pressure rooms, a diagnostic imaging suite including MR and CT scan, x-ray and ultrasound and a full-service retail pharmacy.

The Medical Assistant provides assistance as a member of the Diagnostic Imaging department in providing seamless, coordinated and compassionate care at every patient encounter at Yale Health.

Responsibilities include:

  • Serve as primary chaperone for sensitive ultrasound patient exams requiring chaperones.

  • Greet patients and visitors either in person or on the telephone, answer or direct inquiries.

  • Ensure the satisfaction of clinicians and patients by scheduling appointments using Epic, requesting patient charts, medical records and lab reports.

  • Facilitate patient flow and adherence to clinical schedules.

  • Provide coverage and support for appointment desks and the Patient Care Coordinator.

  • Provide coverage and support for department administrative assistant to include scheduling of staff in Diagnostic Imaging.

  • Provide patients with information related to the department and procedures.

  • Assist patients in completing forms.

  • Compile and post department specific information.

  • Sort, screen and distribute incoming mail. Perform various clerical activities in support of the department.

Schedule/shift:  Full-time, Weekdays, 37.5 HRS; 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Occasional weekends.  Evenings, early mornings, holidays/recess periods may also be required.

Preferred Skills and Abilities
Preferred: Proficiency in Epic, specifically Radiant.

Principal Responsibilities

1. Maintains comfortable, orderly, safe, and clean environment. 2. Prepares patients for examinations. Provides routine information related to medical treatments and procedures. 3. Measures and records vital signs. Collects specimens. Prepares examining rooms. Selects and lays out medical supplies. 4. Maintains medical equipment. Records and reports patient information. Retrieves laboratory test results and patient files. 5. Escorts patients and visitors. Orders and maintains inventory of supplies. 6. Performs clerical functions related to medical activities.

Required Education and Experience

Two years of related work experience and a high school level education; or an equivalent combination of experience and education.

Required License(s) or Certification(s)

Certification by the American Association of Medical Assistants or American Registry of Medical Assistants (or ability to get certification/registration within 90 days of employment).

Health Requirements

This role is a healthcare worker position. Healthcare workers (HCW) are defined as university employees working a healthcare setting who have the potential for direct or indirect exposure to patients, human research subjects or infectious materials including body substance, contaminated medical supplies, devices and equipment, surfaces, or air.  HCW have specific health requirements that must be met prior to starting work, including MMR vaccine or immunity, varicella (chickenpox) vaccine or immunity, TB screening, COVID vaccine according to University policy, hepatitis B vaccine or immunity, and annual flu vaccination.
